If I Had My Way for the 2009 NBA All Star I Would Vote for These Players

Some Players Being Voted Aren't All Star Worthy

E.H. Lim
After voting for my all stars at nba.com I checked the leaders of the 2009 Nba all star ballots. There were a lot of surprises in the top three of each position except the center slot. It made me realize that some players just have the fan support even if they're not that deserving to be starting in their respective conferences. Or maybe the fans of other players really feel strong for the other players they voted in to be all stars.

Players like Tracy McGrady and Yi Jian Lian are in the top three of their respective positions in their conference. When it comes to their play it is a bit surprising but when you come to think of it, they have such a huge fan base that they can easily get into the starting lineups.

It was just surprising to see some big names not being at the top of the ballots or at least getting few more votes. Players like Joe Johnson, Brandon Roy and Danny Granger are some of the players I'd like to mention. One can argue that they're up against bigger names like in Granger's case, a player named Lebron James. Or for Brandon Roy who's going up against Kobe Bryant, Chris Paul and yes, the number two in guard spot ballots in the West, Tracy McGrady. But for Roy to just get 267,053 votes is just crazy. This guy is an all-star for me.

If I had my way this would be my 2009 NBA all-stars that you should see in Phoenix in February.

East Starters

C - Dwight Howard, Orlando Magic

F - Lebron James, Cleveland Cavaliers

F - Kevin Garnett, Boston Celtics

G -Dwyane Wade, Miami Heat

G -Devin Harris, New Jersey Nets

Bench

Chris Bosh, Toronto Raptors

Paul Pierce, Boston Celtics

Vince Carter, New Jersey Nets

Joe Johnson, Atlanta Hawks

Tayshaun Prince, Detroit Pistons

Danny Granger, Indiana Pacers

Rajon Rondo, Boston Celtics

West Starters

C - Yao Ming, Houston Rockets

F - Tim Duncan, San Antonio Spurs

F - Amar'e Stoudemire, Phoenix Suns

G - Chris Paul, New Orleans Hornets

G - Kobe Bryant, LA Lakers

Bench

Chauncey Billups, Denver Nuggets

Brandon Roy, Portland Trailblazers

Steve Nash, Phoenix Suns

Dirk Nowitzki, Dallas Mavericks

Al Jefferson, Minnesota Timberwolves

Paul Millsap, Utah Jazz

Carmelo Anthony, Denver Nuggets (if he can't go because of the injury, Pau Gasol deserves a spot)

Some of you may or may not agree with my picks for the all-star team but I think the players selected are deserving of their spots. I did snub some players like Allen Iverson, Ray Allen, Caron Butler, Antawn Jamison, Josh Smith, Elton Brand, Hedo Turkoglu and even Jameer Nelson in the East and Deron Williams, Tracy McGrady, Shaquille O'neal, Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili and Marcus Camby in the West. Some of these players are borderline all stars this season but because of injuries, standings of their teams, impact to their team I felt that some players deserve to be in Phoenix more. So let me know what you think of my 2009 Nba All star picks.

thanks! yup Granger has been putting up crazy numbers of late and Harris has been very consistent that's why the Nets have a decent record this year at 19-19.

Devin Harris and Danny Granger stand out as the two biggest newcomers... and they are both VERY deserving... good list
