My article yesterday was trying to express that very theme - that when we hear the typical leftist denigrations it is easy to confuse who they are more mad at...conservatives or the nation which conservatives want to keep largely as it has always been. I have reached the conclusion progressives dislike this nation every bit as much as they dislike conservatives.
Progressives are all about "progressing" which as I debunked the other day, is actually regressive. To wish this nation to become a mirror image of social democracies of Europe is a regression from the constitutional republic the Untied States was founded as and has always been. Social democracy is a step backward from the design the Framer's devised, but back to my point.
The typical denigrations of the left do in fact call into question nearly every single manner of business the US has traditionally employed. Progressives seem to hate traditional American foreign policy. Based on their words they seem to not like the Pledge of Allegiance. They rail on ad infinitum against capitalism. They often denigrate the huge majority of American's who are Christians for being God-fearing. They largely consider private enterprise as being evil and in dire need of change. The left as often as not expresses dislike for America as Founded - what else can one conclude in their repeated denigrations of the Constitution?
They rarely ever let pass a chance to defame this nation's actions as if everything we do is wrong and hateful. They attack our social structure as if it were built upon some flawed effort to enrich a few on the backs and sacrifice of everyone else. And perhaps most importantly, when it comes to how the US does things when compared to how the rest of the world does things, who's side does the leftist usually come down upon? Do they generally agree with the American way? No, clearly they do not. But they do often totally agree with how the foreign nations do things. Again, what other conclusion can one reasonably reach based entirely on the positions leftist's express?
The evidence is overwhelming...progressives do not like traditional Americans and our beliefs, so clearly we must reach the inescapable conclusion they also dislike the traditions of the nation, and as a nation is nothing more than its people and its traditions, progressives also dislike this nation. Ipso facto. The evidence is found in nearly every word that rolls off the lips of progressives.
Can I love a person yet hate everything they believe? Disagree with nearly every position they hold dear? Human nature demonstrates that people generally like those who roughly agree with them...not to say mirror imagery so much, but we usually do not seek out people who disagree with everything we believe and then profess undying love for that person...sorry, it's just not how it works in real life.
When one hears the change the left demands, don't they often paint the US as "unjust" if we do not do as they demand? Isn't that pretty much proof of my thesis? One cannot dislike everything to the point they demand it be changed and then turn and swear they love the nation. I think it's high time we call that what it is - an attempt at cover, nothing more. Would my wife buy what I'm selling if I tell her I love her and then on a daily basis give her an hours long litany of things I hate about her and that I demand she change now or she is unjust? I dare ya to think about that and reach any other conclusion.
Therefore when one hears a leftist go on their little rant it must be recognized the rant is both personal, directed at the person with whom they disagree as well as ranting against the principles the person places their faith in. Of course the lefty will scream offense if one accuses them of disliking their nation, but based on real life what other conclusion can one reasonably arrive at? I fear they doth protest too much...in fact I know they do!

I wonder what will become of America. When you change the DNA of something, you will inevitably end up with something entirely different. This is what is happening, sadly so. cheers
I appreciate your point Don but I was referring to the hardline lefty here and not rank and file Democrats. I fully admit the nation is imperfect and would never try and negate or deny our lack of perfection, but it's a long way from disagreement to hatred and when I listen to the unending litany of leftist denigration as to how terrible we are, I believe that is vastly different than to acknowledge the imperfections and areas that could be worked on. I would NEVER imply that everyone who finds fault hates this nation. Hell, there are things I think need changing or at least tweaking the Hell out of, and I love this nation like few others. Sorry if my presentation made it appear that I think EVERY disagreement is hatred, for that was not my intention, nor is it how I feel at all.
Heck. Disagreement, even fights, are a major component of the democratic process. Everyone's required by law to agree in North Korea.
Good thing this is under "opinion." I don't really agree that just because I don't agree whole-heartedly with any one group that I hate this country. Should I be expected to "go along just to get along" were I to conclude our government has done something wrong? Am I un-American because I want no imaginary sky-god's made up rules to be the basis of my country's laws? And by that same token, I'm also quite annoyed by the communist influence in this country too. So, am I not an atheist? Not everything is simple black and white. Some things are plaid.
No David...as I have alluded to before, it used to be Democrats and Republicans disagreed but were still Americans first and that bound us. Now that is not at all the case. When I hear leftists GENERALLY attacking most or lots and lots of American traditions and further telling me how wonderful "X" nation does it or how right "X" nation is as opposed to us, what conclusion can I reach? They needn't dislike EVERY one, but they sure sound like they dislike the majority. Used to be Dems/Reps was merely a delineation of mostly MINOR diff., but not now! Why don't you point out 5 major issues the typical leftist and typical conservative agree upon. Betcha can't!
If one disliked EVERY American tradition, this might hold water.... and even then, one would have to ask exactly which traditions we are talking about because all Americans (yes, good, true and patriotic Americans) do no observe all the same ones. If you mean the ones you, personally, observe ... well, I guess you can tell... I think there might be a small leak in the reasoning here, Jim.
