The answer to the title question is kind of. It's a fine thing to listen to Dave Ramsey, he has plenty of good advice and helps people well with financial advice. But it's like a former boss of mine said when I asked him about something. He said "I'm good, I'm not God." That means he was good at his job and able to accomplish certain things, but not things that only God can do.
This past week I did listen to the Dave Ramsey show one day (Thursday or Friday) on KTSA 550-AM based out of San Antonio, Texas. The wife of a man who was an Organic Farmer called in. Now I agree with most of what Mr. Ramsey said, including grow the farm at a slower rate. But Mr. Ramsey said something about prices with which I disagree. Now he concluded that the reason they were not making money (Mr. Didn't seem to listen to the farmer's wife say they were breaking even).was because the farmer wasn't charging enough.
Mr. Ramsey seemed to say that Organic things cost a lot more and they should. I don't know whether the farmer whose wife called the Dave Ramsey show under prices things or not, for his sake I hope he does not. As a financial fellow, Dave Ramsey should be very aware of the law of supply and demand.
As both a consumer and an organic gardener I do not think prices should be way out of line with things grown chemically. That's where prices are right now, but most organic people want prices to come down and do not appreciate that when companies like those that make Miracle Grow buy out organic companies they raise the prices unreasonably high. In other words, there appears to be an attempt by big chemical companies to price organics out of the market. This is not a good thing, in fact, it is at best unethical.
It is my understanding that it does cost more to manufacture some organic products, but not as much as you are being charged. Of course the farmer and those involved in any business need to make money. That's not a problem. But as an organic gardener and a consumer I think we need to get prices down as much as we can without compromising any quality at all. That is something we can and should do.
