If You're Going to Be My Friend

Musing on Friendship 4

Louisa Burgess

If you're going to be my friend
take it seriously
there is very little about me that is light
and less of me that is uptight.

Be prepared for my strong opinions
and my warped sense of humor at times
there will be cussing and hollering
during sporting events,
elections,
news casts
and sometimes just because I can.

If you're going to be my friend
think it over for a while
be careful not to be the kind
who only wants a smile.

Get to know my dark side
as well as the fly by night
try to be patient
I'm not always easy
and not always right.

If you're going to be my friend
don't slip on the rug coming inside
I have a bad habit of
forgetting and putting things aside.

Be sure to take your vitamins
I can keep you up at night
but I'll make you breakfast in the
morning, I'll be talked out by then.

If your'e going to be my friend remember
sometimes I'm fun to be with
at the movies or
a show,
other times I'll be bawling and need
to let it flow.

My friend I'll be sure to return the favorr
I'll hold your hand if you need it
I'll laugh at your stupid jokes
I'll go where you want to go
I'll listen to your story
I'll watch you try on clothes
and other boring things like that
I'm sure
as soon as I find that scrunched up
piece of paper or my cell phone with your number
or
when I remember how to get
in touch with you.......

Friendship is not easy, nor free - and sometimes it seems to disconnect, even when it's still there, just like you say. True, warm write about the imperfect realities of real friendship, Louisa. Be well, Michael

This is the pure reason I write and read, blunt honesty! I feel relation in every line! This is truly what a friendship entails, a real friendship that is. And most of all, this is what I have been telling my partner. I want to spend my life with someone who knows all of my secrets and still stands beside me not against me. As for friends, they are hard to come by. I am lucky to have one true friend who knows it all, and stays with me no matter the day, the mood, or even the gripe and complaint. Excellent by far! I honestly believe this to be one of the best that I have read. Thank you so much for what you instilled into my mind today.
