In Africa many voice the opinion that countries under black rule are suffering. A good example is Zimbabwe. South Africa too faces many problems in the post-Apartheid era. Yet, racial problems occur in many countries throughout the world.
Why do people find it necessary to separate themselves by race, culture or language?
People are supposed to live together in harmony, developing good relationships. But people don't want to do this and the problem doesn't lie with government. The problem lies with attitude. Attitude determines racial prejudice and discrimination. A government cannot change the way a person thinks.
Our attitude towards people of other races reflects who and what we are. Many Republicans are distraught to hand their government to a Democrat. And as if that isn't bad enough, the particular Democrat happens to be black.
Strangely enough, people are people and whether the government is Republican or Democratic, white or black, the leaders want the same thing. Their concern is for the welfare of the people who live in their country.
A government is as good as the people who govern it. If you have a perfect leader, surely you will have a perfect parliament, which will lead to a perfect government and a perfect society. Something is wrong with this perfect picture. It's not real. A perfect leader and a perfect government do not exist. You need perfect humans for this. And white leaders are not perfect. Black leaders aren't less than this. You can't be deader than dead, more imperfect than imperfect.
When we look through the annals of history we realize the difficulty people have had in accepting subjection to a political system. If we count the many political revolutions that have taken place over the centuries, we can conclude that man is rebellious, like a naughty head-strong child ... with a will of his own.
I place myself in the shoes of Barack Obama. And then I take my hat off. This is a man who, against all odds, has made a mark: the first black American president in the history of the United States of America. What? Is he the first black man in the world to have made an impression?
Who is Tiger Woods? Do you know of Lewis Hamilton? Let's stop there!
Barack Obama has to perform many services for the people. His promises need to be fulfilled. He will carry out laws and communicate with other nations and he will be stereotyped, eventually ... and still go about his duties as the president of the USA.
It's in respecting what this man has done and what he needs to do for the future of the country that will make America succeed. Accepting and supporting his authoritative role in society is thus important. Cast aside imperfect human attitude that is negative and live for the hope of which he has spoken.
This is then the declaration of all Americans:
I believe in the United States of America as a Government of the people, by the people, for the people; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed; a democracy in a republic, a sovereign Nation of many sovereign States; a perfect Union, one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes. I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it, to support its Constitution, to obey its laws, to respect its flag, and to defend it against all enemies.
William Tyler Page - The American's Creed
Americanism is a question of principle, of purpose, of idealism, of character: it is not a matter of birthplace or creed, or line of descent (anonymously said). And if this is the case, then truly, all Americans should have faith in and hope for the success of Barack Obama.
