The show was based around team Satomi, a group of new comers to the IG1. Here the competition is tougher, the speed is higher, and the action more intense. However in the game, you have to start all the way back in the IG3 and work your way through the ranks to achieve a spot in the IG1. If you a fan of the show, you might not be able to follow the story or flow of the game very well, but none the less you could have never seen the cartoon and still have plenty of fun with this game.
At first this game appears to be about racing, but once you play you'll see it's more of a fighting based action title. You start the first of three laps arranging your team. You can tweak each mech so when you're not in control the compute will know what you want it to do. You can set one player to be about defense and another offence, or have a well balanced team. As you race around on the second lap it's all about the beat down. You spend your time changing between each of your characters in an attempt to knock your opponents out of the race and survive. There are a ton of combinations you can perform and even team attacks that can deliver massive damage. A well placed team attack can send an opponent down for the count really quick.
On your third lap speed mode is king. You can charge your gauge then release a boost of incredible speed comparable to your characters current health. This is where the racing takes place, although you'll probably end up blowing the competition out of the water. If you manage to beat the game, you'll have a chance to face off against the IGPX legend Rocket G, and you'll lose. He's tough but give it a few tries and you'll take him out.
Multiplayer mode is fun and engaging. Here you can play as any of your favorite teams you have unlocked from the single player mode. Satomi is here as well as Black Egg, Edge Raid, Sledge Mamma, and many more. Again multiplayer pans out just like single player mode with fighting being the key element to victory, a speed mode with a human opponent is much more of a challenge.
This game is overall amazing, and even better if you're a fan of the show. Replay value is high and with the amount of different events and things to do you'll enjoy if for hours. Single player mode is short; you'll beat it fairly quickly, as long as you keep your wits about you. The graphics are nice, but not revolutionary, the game sounds amazing and you really do get that whole IGPX feeling. If you're a fan of the show, then you will thoroughly enjoy this game, go buy it. If you're a casual gamer who has never see the show and cares nothing about it, you'll like this game, and enjoy it for a few days, so go rent IGPX and at least give it a try, I mean hey how can you hate a game where you beat the snot out of each other traveling at 300 miles per hour? You can't!
