IHOP to Celebrate National Pancake Day on February 23

Have Pancakes for Dinner to Support Charity

Carly Hart
February 23, 2010 marks National Pancake Day across the nation and most especially at IHOP. To celebrate the event and raise money for charity, IHOP will serve a free short stack of pancakes to customers and collect donations for Children's Miracle Network (CMN). IHOP's Free Pancake Day event in 2009 raised more than $1.3 million dollars for charity. IHOP is hoping to raise even more money for charity this year, aiming for at least another $1.75 million dollars so that they can break the $5 million in 5 years threshold.

IHOP Free Pancake Day 2010: What is included?

IHOP will serve a short stack, that is 3 buttermilk pancakes, for free at IHOPs across the nation from 7:00 AM until 10:00 PM on February 23, 2010. This freebie does not include any extras that a customer might wish to order to complement their free pancakes, such as beverages or other menu items. The offer of free pancakes is limited to dine-in customers only.

What is the value is a free short stack of pancakes at IHOP?

I spoke with Chris Lyman, a manager at an IHOP located in Fredericksburg, Virginia. He stated that the menu cost of a short stack of pancakes is $3.99. I asked him this because though advertised as a freebie, customers should bear that price point in mind when leaving their tips for their waitresses. Customers may also want to take the typical cost of their free pancakes in mind when making their donation to the CMN or other local charity accepting donations at IHOP. There has been a substantial increase in the amount of money collected for charity in the past few years and IHOP's goal of $5 Million in 5 years is a worthy goal to achieve.

Families are welcome to celebrate National Pancake Day at IHOP

The IHOP in Fredericksburg, Virginia typically serves between 700 and 1,000 customers on Free Pancake Day. To handle so many orders of flap jacks, additional help is brought in on that day to keep up with demand. Mr. Lyman indicated that many of his customers on Free Pancake Day are college students or young adults. However, IHOP is a family-friendly restaurant and families are encouraged to come out to celebrate National Pancake Day by having breakfast for dinner for a great cause.

    This is awesome!

My kids would love to do this, but unfortunately a short stack of buttermilk pancakes is not what they would want to order and I'm sure IHOP knows this. What some civic minded group should do is get a sponsor to pay for drinks to accompany the short stack and bus in the homeless to take advantage of this offer.

We don't have many IHOP's in our area.
