IKEA Kitchens and Bathrooms 2010: What's New

Tara Van Ness
If you didn't already know, IKEA is the premiere place for affordable kitchens and bathrooms. Kitchen and bathroom renovations are extremely expensive endeavors, but at IKEA, you can get an entire kitchen for less than five thousand dollars, which is part of its huge appeal. Also, IKEA kitchens and bathrooms are stylish, sturdy, and many are created with smaller spaces in mind, with smart storage solutions.

In 2010, IKEA kitchens feature a new waste sorting bin in the RATIONELL collection that will have recyclers everywhere cheering. This pull-out bin is easy to clean and its folding handles make it easy to clean and keep bin liners in place.

The VARDE series offers a new addition at IKEA this year. Among the coordinating sink, kitchen trolley, cabinet for built-in oven, glass door wall cabinet and wall shelf, Varde welcomes a base cabinet and countertop. The legs are adjustable and the handles and hinges are included. It is made of clear, lacquered birch veneer and oiled solid birch. It will make a striking addition to a Varde kitchen.

IKEA has also added a new color to its kitchen collection. The ABSTRAKT high-gloss gray is a high-gloss foil finish. It is a new option when choosing a new kitchen from IKEA. Included in the $2199 price are cabinets, fronts, interior shelving, drawer and door dampers, legs, and visible moldings and panels. IKEA has also lowered the price of two popular kitchens, the APPLAD black sees an almost $200 reduction, and the APPLAD white sees the same.

In bathrooms, IKEA continues to deliver competitive prices and sleek designs. However, there aren't many new items in the catalog. Painted bamboo DRAGAN jars are a new addition and make an affordable statement in the bathroom. Also, the popular FRACK mirror sees a $5 price cut, to a very inexpensive $4.99. Unfortunately, the popular GRUNDTAL series of accessories stays the same price.

Even if the pieces you love from IKEA haven't come down in price, there is still a wide selection of bathroom and kitchen accessories and elements to suit any price point and decorating style. Many of IKEA's kitchens and bathrooms are also compatible in design and style, so you can even mix and match, choosing only what you love.

Be sure to check IKEA's website for details on their semi-annual sales that occur a few times per year, especially around the holidays. They also offer coupons in their circulars. For more information, visit IKEA directly.
