IKEA Recalls Children’s Tents After Reports of Injury

65,000 Tents for Children Sold at IKEA Recalled After Reports of Injury

IKEA has recalled approximately 65,000 BUSA children's folding tents in the United States and Canada due to reports of lacerations and puncture hazards. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Health Canada have received three reports of incidents involving the tent, including one injury.

According to the CPSC, the wire frame (made of steel) can break apart, causing sharp, protruding ends that can injure children. The children's tents were sold throughout IKEA stores in the United States and in Canada from August 2011 until September 2011 and retailed for approximately $8.00 each. The tents were manufactured in Vietnam and were distributed through IKEA North America Service of Conshohocken, Pennsylvania.

Parents and caregivers are advised to take the children's tents away from children immediately and to bring the tent to their local IKEA store where they will receive a full refund. The tents are identified by the brand name BUSA and IKEA and feature the model number on a tag that has been sewn into the interior lining of the tent. The model number involved with the recall is 90192009 and the tents were sold in either pale green with turquoise trim or pink with white trim.

Those in the United States and Canada may contact IKEA at their toll free customer service number 1-888-966-4532. Concerned consumers may also contact IKEA through their US and Canadian based websites.

In addition to the listing through Health Canada and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, IKEA posts their latest recall information on their official website. It's important to realize that it is against the law to resell items that have been recalled and it is imperative that those who purchase items used ensure they have not been recalled. You may find past and current recalls on IKEA's official website.
