Illegal Immigrants Force Arizona to Pass Legislation

President Obama Lacking a Solution to Illegal Immigration

M.R Charette
The illegal immigrant legislation in Arizona has become a national item of attention for the entire United States. It isn't like this is a new agenda; it is simply a formalized agenda that Arizona has formally adopted.

Arizona has illegal aliens and drugs pouring across their borders without any federal support to stop it. The illegal aliens are overwhelming their state and local welfare systems, schools, health and police infrastructures. Arizona decided to take the matter into their own hands and used the Arizona state constitution to implement it. President Obama has referred to the new law as being "misguided" and has been an absentee problem solver in the entire matter.

When President Obama was running for president illegal immigration was a major point. He assured his voters he would address illegal immigration. He became president and turned his attention to bailouts, health, Afghanistan, and the economy. Little old Arizona was still fighting its own battles with illegal drugs, human trafficking and immigrants on a daily basis. President Obama and the federal government did nothing to try to assist with this current poisonous and controversial situation.

The new law gives the police the right to question anyone they wish as long as they have reasonable cause. They can arrest individuals if they are indeed breaking the law. They cannot simply harass someone because they look Latino. Even before Arizona implemented this law it was recognized that legal aliens must carry their green cards and produce them when asked to do so by proper authorities.

Some are claiming racial profiling will take place while others are threatening to boycott Arizona economically. Some believe the circumstances will be advantageous for the race card to be addressed in the political arena. The almost complete lack of response from Obama only serves to enhance the controversy.

This is a complicated issue with no happy solution. The possibility of racial profiling occurring is unfair to those who abide by the law. Amnesty is unpopular and unfair to the taxpayers. The very nature of being illegal suggests immigrants will try to settle and drain social and economic bridges put in place for legal citizens. It is unlikely any compromise will be accepted, the United States needs to address and stop the problem sooner than later.

The United States government needs to step up to the plate and help Arizona. President Obama should make definitive, supportive statements for stopping illegal immigration. More importantly, he should back his words up with actions and he should do it now. Chances are his promises of containing illegal immigration were just words alone. We have yet to see any action from the Obama administration. Is it truly so shocking that Arizona became fed up and passed this legislation?

I'm not into politics, but this highlights the fact that the political arena will never solve mankind's problems.
