The issue of illegal immigration is important to all Americans, is because it affects everyone. Some of them can even manage to vote. This is not very acceptable, since they aren't even legal US Citizens in this country. As I said before, they do take the jobs that some Americans might want, which in turn this causes the unemployment rate to rise in the country. Also American businesses are more likely to hire illegal immigrants mainly because they work for less than the average American worker.
That's due to the fact that the businesses will tend to "blackmail" them in a way. They work for less or they get the INS on them. So most the time this is why they work for less than minimum wage because they do not want to get deported.
Some things the U.S. House of Representaives are trying is passing three bills. They can be summed up as, ending 'catch & release' practice, empower local officials and detain criminals. Some examples of the laws are, Detaining Dangerous Aliens Who Are Unable to be Deported, Increasing Prosecutions of Alien Smugglers, Criminalizing the Construction and Financing of Border Tunnels. According to Thomas Sowell's article Immigration Bill Is Fraud the Senate has proposed a plan where illegal immigrants are asked to leave the country, which later they may apply for citizenship.
Personally, if I was in charge of Immigration laws, this country wouldn't have many illegal immigrants as it does today. I would defiantly increase the border security. Possibly even build the way that separates the two borders. If people want our borders protected then, we'd have to do some major things to this country. Also I would hunt down all the illegal immigrants that are currently in this country. I would find out where they live, and where the work and ship them back. I would also press charges to there employers for harboring an illegal immigrant. People need to start realizing that this whole illegal immigration is a big problem. It's already a problem for us now, and in twenty years or so, it's going to be worse. There will be a lot more immigrants than there are today. There just isn't enough sufficient room in this country to house them all. I would also, deny them there health care, and other things that the illegal immigrants are using for free, such as the public schools. That is just wrong of them to do. This is what I would do if I were in charge.
