Illegal Immigration: How Far Are You Willing to Go to Stop It?

I'll bet when you first considered this question you immediately thought of college, I know I did. And for me that made it pretty much a no brainer.

Do I want to use my tax dollars to give student loans or grants to Juan or Lupita, so they can can get a degree and earn more money to send across the border, and then when we finally get around to deporting them they can take these skills and degrees with them without ever paying ? NO I DO NOT !

But then I did a little research, and considered the question. Once I did this I was glad that I did because this immigration question becomes as much of a quagmire, as any other immigration question does.

The question doesn't say anything about college. The question just asks if I want to fund or finance the education of Illegal Immigrants.

Well, that puts a little bit of a 'bow in the board' doesn't it? Perhaps it won't be as easy to 'fix this fence' as I thought it would be.

My son goes to public school. It's not the best school, but it's not the worst. It is however, the best we can afford. He is 10. We also have twin daughters who are 19 and attend community college. They both live on their own and work two jobs. They have grants and loans, and are hoping for scholarships, when they go to a State College. Both of them earn great grades and work hard so I'm convinced they will get them. But still my wife and I are an emergency financial aid source.

The point is, we fund public education at every turn. We both pay and have always paid taxes. It seems every day the school board puts up another school levy tax. My son drags home fund-raisers for his school all the time. Free public schools has loads of fees, and the list goes on and on.

My son doesn't get the grades I would have hoped for. The teachers have suggested a tutor and we do home work together. I have been to his school on several occasions and the classrooms are crowded. The teachers and teacher helpers seem to have their hands very full. We pay for his lunch and it doesn't look to me like the food is very good. The thing is, I think his school should be better.

So now I have to ask myself if I am willing to go into the 2^nd or 3^rd grade class and take little Lupita and Juan by the hand and explain to them that they can't go to school here any more?

Can't you just see their little brown eyes well with tears when you tell them they can't go to school like the other kids. "Where will we go ?" Little Lupita might ask as a big tear rolls down her face. "Daddy is at the packing house working, and Mama is at the Motel cleaning rooms?" Will you pry the carton of milk from Juans hands ? Can you walk them off the property and explain to them that you can't worry about that because their Parents are Illegal Aliens. Can you do it ? Could I ?

Now we are coming down to it. This is where it gets tough. How far are we willing to go to enforce our immigration laws.

As for me it would be tough but I could do it. I have to prioritize. I have to put American children first. My son needs more attention and he needs better schools, and although I pay and pay and pay things aren't getting better for him.

The American Education System can only be compared to a burning barn, and we as tax payers, are putting it out by dumping buckets of money on it. That's not working. It's not getting better. I think the reason that more money isn't working is because with every one bucket of cash we dump on one side of the barn, other people are putting two pieces of raw lumber into the blaze. The raw lumber is students and if even 1 in 25 of these students is not a citizen, or the child of a citizen, than that piece of lumber needs to be somewhere else.

I personally am of the belief that the key to stopping Illegal Immigration, is at least a three pronged approach.

Every business that knowingly employees an Illegal Alien needs to be fined 5 thousand dollars per alien. And be billed for the deportation expenses of the individual that they employed. This fine needs to be collected within 90 days of the citation. No excuses, no negotiation. Treat it like a very expensive speeding ticket, except that refusal to pay it doesn't result in loss of you driving privileges, but the auctioning off of the business assets to pay the bill. We have given this authority to the IRS we may as well give it to the Immigration Department.

The second step is not simply a fence, but a full scale de-militarized zone, not unlike the one that is maintained between North and South Korea. This border must be guarded and defended. And anyone attempting to bypass the security check points must be treated as an enemy invader. As a nation we need to either protect our borders, and be prepared to use lethal force. Or be willing to become the welfare nation of the world.

Lackadaisical border enforcement doesn't work, so if we as a nation are going to guard our borders than we need to do that. If we are not than there is no since in throwing billions of dollars towards a project that we have no intention of maintaining.

The third and final step of this immigration program must be the immediate cessation and suspension of all social programs that benefit Illegal Aliens. This includes public schools, public health care, and access to any of our public services. This must include prosecution of anyone who misrepresents their immigration status while utilizing these programs. We don't even need new laws to do this. Theft of services is a crime.

As for the mass deportations I can only suggest that a public announcement be made of our policy changes. And the day of mandatory enforcement of the laws published. From that point forward all citizens must be prepared to prove their citizenship on demand or be deported.

In closing it is a huge waste of time and resources to enforce citizenship laws in some areas and not in others, laws need to be consistent, enforceable, and enforced to be effective.

My family immigrated here and I believe that we should be welcoming and open minded when it comes to immigration, however I do believe that illegal immigration is a crime against this country and am not willing to extend this welcome to people who violate our sovereignty and laws by illegally immigrating.
