Time and again the administration has failed to bring out a comprehensive plan to manage immigration. I am not blaming this administration only; the past governments are also to blame. But then the problems we have not will not be solved by blaming the past. The present government must realize the enormity of the issue and get it acts together.
As an immigrant, a legal one, I do feel that people should have opportunity to come to this country legally and get a chance to explore what it has to offer. Many of us have come here to escape persecution at home, or violence or poverty. America for us means a chance.
I do know that it not possible to let in everyone who wants to come into the country. There are limitations, and there has to be limitations. But I do not believe that the current immigration system provides enough opportunity to people who want to come here legally. For example: an international students who wants to stay here and work, and possibly apply for a permanent residents status has to be able to get a employer willing to sponsor him/her for the Green Card. After the events of 9/11 many employers have chosen not to follow through the lengthy paper work to sponsor a foreign worker. So does that student do? Some remain here illegally, while some join school again.
Some cities in US, especially along the border have become sanctuary cities. They provide a safe place for the illegal immigrants. I have said that the immigration system does not provide enough opportunities to come into the country legally, but I do believe that building sanctuary cities will only add to problem. Let's look into the article "Protest end with Mexican Flag on California Post Office" by Aaron Samuels, he says, "They took down the American flag at the local post office, threw it on the ground and stomped on it, and then hoisted the Mexican flag in its place."
This incident happened in Maywood, California a sanctuary city. I am not saying that every sanctuary city will now hoist a Mexican flag, but what these cities have shown by flouting the law of the land has set a precedent. They have shown that they do not care about the law. So looking in this context, it should not be unusual if a foreign flag is hoisted in American institutions.
Many immigrants who come here illegally are poor and in search of better opportunity. I support plans to documents them, allowing them to work and live here, pay tax and get medical care and fair wages. But allowing them live illegally, which deprives them of getting fair wage, social security is not something to be promoted.
So what is the solution? First of all we all have to agree that immigration is something US needs. The country needs skilled people from abroad and also semi skilled laborers. Trying to stop it completely will not work, so let's not waste our time trying that. To make sure people enter and live here legally, let's work with the government of Mexico and other nations from where illegal aliens come, to solve the problem.
What is going wrong in Mexico so that people are trying to come here? Let's find that out and fix it before building that fence. Let's try to fix the problem where it starts, outside the US.
I am sure we will be able to solve the immigration issue if we try to build stronger economies around the US and beyond.

Post a CommentI think the states should have the right to be able to pass there on illegal immigration law as did arizona. Texas needs the same law.
I don't agree with any of the people at the bottom except the fist one.T hat's all I have to say.
To my opinion the best way to solve the economy is to give citizenship to illegal immigrants because they would get a lot of money from that. At least if they don't give citizenship to the immigrants they should give it to their kids because the children are not the ones that decide to come here their parents do because they want to give them a better future. This is my opinion but I know that not everybody has the same opinion as me. Thank-you!!!!!!!!!!
very nice article!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lou , Do you think congress will really do anything about borer security? Ihave called a number of congressmen and suggestsed that a double or triple row of twenty foot high sound barriers with razor wire in the top , be put along the borader. Each row should be 10 to 15 feet apart. I think that would help . No one is listening. . Maybe if you said something like this on your show every day for he next six months , somebody might get the point.
Mr. Dobbs, your comments about Jack Kennedy tonight were uncalled for. You can't do anything but say something hateful. So keep it up, everytime you use all of your hate Mexican lines, you disgust most of the American people. If this is such a great issue, why didn't J. D. hayworth win? I don't often agree with Bob Novac, but he's right about the hate mexico crowd. He predicted they would lose and they did.
