Gouging is an illegal move in amateur wrestling. This occurs when you intentionally gouge or scratch your opponent. You might be trying to poke the other person's eye out. If you are caught trying to gouge your opponent then you may be disqualified from the match. Some amateur wrestling competitions will even ban you of your status if you are caught performing such an act.
Spiking is another illegal act in amateur wrestling. You are not allowed to lift your opponent up into the air and then slam them down on their head onto the mat. This could break the opponent's neck and injure or kill them. This is a sport and you are not allowed to do this to your opponent. You can lift your opponent in the air but you cannot bring them down on their neck or head.
A grappling hold is also known as scissors. This is when you place your knees over the head or the torso of your opponent when they are not in a neutral position. This type of act is considered a form of stalling and it is illegal in the sport of amateur wrestling.
A full nelson is a very popular and well known move but it is also illegal in amateur wrestling. This move is when you have both arms underneath your opponent's forearms with your hands locked behind their head or neck. This is a dangerous move and it is not allowed in the sport.
When you practice amateur wrestling or take part in competitions then you need to be aware of the many illegal positions that can get you disqualified from an event or a competition. In addition, some of these moves could really injure another player and the goal is to pin them but not to injure them out of competition for life. You should play fairly and by the rules at all times. You are also not allowed to bite, strangle, chokehold, smother, and do other things to your opponent also.
