I'm Drunk but Not Intoxicated with Technology

Alfonso Coley
It is indeed perilous times in which we live in today, and Christian men and women will face more challenges as our societies advance further into the future. I can recall a time where cell phones were something that we dreamed about, and blackberries as far as the new cell phone rave were something thought of as science fiction.

One may say that our societies have come a long way, but I protest that we have taken a step backwards as far as our human connection in this lifetime. It seems that human beings have become disconnected, as many people have felt in love with their new technological toys.

There has also come to light a new destructive attitude pertaining to human relations, and how insensitive our societies have become.

Not so long ago, when the World Trade Center was demolished by an act of terrorism, it would have seemed that human beings would have become more caring, and patient. In fact the opposite has occurred, and our new technology has much to blame for our human disconnection with our own heritage and culture.

Not all things are so bad when it comes to technology; the advance in medicine has helped mankind live a better and healthier life. All though our societies have come so far as technological advances, spiritually, our nation and the world at large is suffering from an acute Alzheimer's disorder - that is changing the way human beings relate to one another.

For better or worse, the new technologies are what shape our society, but it should not summarize the fabric of our morality. It is indeed a perilous time in which we live, but as human beings, it is our responsibility to make this world a better place, irregardless of the distractions that surround our lives.

I may be drunk, but I am not intoxicated with our present technology, and even though I enjoy and benefit from these marvelous man-made wonders, I will stand firm on working and becoming one with Jesus and the creator of all things in this universe and beyond.

You may have a point on that issue L B, it seems to be both of them are the lesser evil we have come to live with. Thanks for leaving your comment.

Provoking thoughts Alfonso but might you not be confusing technology and materialism?
