Then I found AreYouGame.com and it was really exciting. There were so many games I didn't even know where to start. So here's my evaluation of the site and services...
First the website:
When you first go to AreYouGame.Com, you see a few easy links right at the top.. Cart, My Account, Find a Gift, Service. To use My Account, you have to sign up as a member and then you will be able to save things in your cart for as long as you like. You can also sign up for their emails about new products and fun stuff. Members are also allowed an Address book so you can save multiple mailing addresses right on their site.
You are shown 3 main tabs for offline games as well as one for online games. These tabs take you to Games, Puzzles, and Other Fun Stuff. If that's not easy enough for you then use the left navigation where there is a quick site search so you can go right to the game you want. There's also a link for an advanced search, but the quick search is usually sufficient. They also provide shortcuts for Favorites and Best Sellers. These are the games/themes that people buy the most of. If you are buying a gift, this will give you an idea of what is popular today.
If you cannot decide what to buy your loved ones, you can send them email or paper gift certificates. You can set the gift certificate to be delivered on a certain day. If you are a member, the left nav provides links to Personalize Account, Address Book, and Order History. The last link shows everything you've ordered from the site, along with shipping information and dates. Lastly, there are links in the left nav for Services which will give you all the information and FAQs you need to use the site.
Now on to the Games!
The first main tab is Games. This is where I spend most of my time shopping. There are currently 15 categories of games including Adult Party Games, Dice Games, Kids Games, and Travel Games.
Why are these games so special? Well you may be able to find Monopoly in a store, but can you easily find Elvis Presley Monopoly, Simpsons Monopoly, Spider-Man Monopoly or Spongebob Monopoly? I mention Simpsons Monopoly because that's the one I bought. These versions of monopoly are exactly like the original except the themes are changed. Instead of buying "Boardwalk", you can buy "Burns Manor" or maybe even "The Quiky Mart".
Of course there's more than just Monopoly. I also bought Pokemon Sorry b/c I love sorry, and the game was on sale for 10$. Other games include different versions of Clue, What's My Line, and many Harry Potter games. This is great for kids who love a particular character, but can also be great for adults who are into a certain movie. They take the same old game and add a little twist to make it better. There are other games outside of the "remakes" type that I've mentioned so far. For example, if you search for Simpsons right now you will come up with 11 games. Some are remakes of older games, others are brand new games made just for Simpsons fans.
You can also buy card refills for games that you might already have. We already have Battle of the Sexes, but we've heard all the questions, so I came to this site to buy new questions. They don't have these for every game, but they had the ones I wanted.
Puzzles
The second tab on the site takes you to the Puzzles section. Puzzles are in categories, divided by size, number of pieces, and type. If you are a puzzle lover, you're sure to find at least one that you like. Buy a 20 piece puzzle for your young ones, or a 2000 piece Times Square puzzle for those long winter nights! They sell a large variety of puzzle types including 3D puzzles which are literally 3D when completed, Large Piece puzzles for those who can't handle those itsy bitsy pieces, and shaped puzzles that are not your basic rectangle.
For those of you who really want a challenge, check out the Impossibles Puzzles! These puzzles usually look very easy as far as the image is not complex, however they are very difficult because there are repeat images, or crazy backgrounds, that make them seem impossible to put together. - and some even come with extra pieces that don't fit anywhere! They are also square which makes it hard for you to tell the difference between the top and bottom and the sides. These are for the true puzzle lovers.
Other Fun Stuff
There are only 8 categories in this section, and it seems mostly for kids. Active Play is cool because it has games that kids can actually get involved in so they can get some exercise without even realizing it. There are various type of Colorforms books, activities and playsets. You'll find many things that Glow in the Dark as well as Party Favors. Basically this section is everything that doesn't fit as a game or a puzzle.
Service
The service I received was great. My games arrived only a week after I ordered them. The games were all wrapped up and brand new, and they arrived in perfect condition.
Selection
I was able to find about 20 games that I wouldn't mind buying if I had any reason to. The best part is that you can search for games by your favorite TV show or Theme. You can't do that in a normal toy store. They had better/newer versions of games I have heard of, as well as brand new games I've never seen. I initially shopped there in 2002, but every year I visit to see what the newest releases are. It is neat to see how they keep up with recent movies and shows so as to always provide you with something new and fun.
Price
The prices are reasonable, although shipping added a bit. It's worth it since you can play these games over and over (at least until you get bored with them and have to buy a new game)
Conclusion
If you've worn out the old playing cards, and you're sick of staring at your friends in boredom, visit AreYouGame.com today! You may find yourself buying a new version of monopoly, or you may find a new game that you never even heard of. Board games and puzzles are the best investment you can make because they provide endless reasons for getting together with friends.
