I'm Sorry I Missed You

A Powers
I'm sorry I missed you You said not to
and I tried not to be so attached
But the evening fell and the cold wind blew
and the back door came unlatched
I tried, I tried to hold it shut
but your voice came in on the wind
and I crumpled to the floor of the hut
like a cedar's final bend
Behind my eyes, I saw your eyes
and wept to see them so
I'm sorry that I missed you
and that I let you go
