Beautiful explanation of a basic "right" even a conservative should understand its importance

This brief article explains the basic historical background of habeus corpus. Many Americans fail to appreciate just how fundamental habeus corpus is to our legal system; this article drives the point home. I was surprised to learn some details of Lincoln's famous revocation of habeus corpus during the Civil War; I had been aware of the event but did not know just how much opprobrium it attracted.

This article helps explain the most basic understanding of the writ of habeus corpus. It is a fundamental understanding that Americans have for too long taken for granted and too few understand at all. The media's responsibility is not only to relay the news of today but is to make sure that the news is presented in a way that the audience can understand the reports in a as non-biased and non-judgemental manner as possible. Too often, reports are filled with assumptions of understanding and bias for their meanings that real information does not penetrate spin. This is too often exploited by the media to perpetuate an opinion that serves their greater purpose. This article is informative and educational giving the reader the facts about a basic right that too many articles have (knowingly or not) failed to explain.

This is an excellent essay that explains this precious right, habeus corpus. As the author says,
It was so fundamental to basic liberty, that the founding fathers enshrined it in the Constitution.

and yet, too many times we hear our constitution does not give this right to all, only to American citizens.
