Imagine a Boise State - Florida National Title Game

The national championship game in college football between Florida and Ohio State has been over for several weeks now. Now is the time for reflection on a great BCS system that has done the job and eliminated all possible doubt of who the national champion is in college football. Or did they? Boise State went undefeated while Florida had one win while winning the national championship. So if you compared the two football teams and put them together on a football field to decide who the national champion was once and for all, what would happen?

Most people that I have posed the question to tell me that the Florida Gators would win in a rout. After all the Gators completely destroyed the Ohio State Buckeyes, a team that went undefeated and beat ranked teams such as Michigan and Notre Dame during the regular season. However, is it really the fault of Boise State for playing in a conference that has no ranked teams to play against? The Boise State Broncos won every game on their schedule and beat an Oregon team that USC lost to in the regular season. Boise State led Oklahoma, a powerhouse football team with a rich football tradition by fourteen points at some points during the Bowl game. Even after surviving after a furious Sooners comeback, the Broncos still prevailed. The play calling was imaginative and thrilling.

In the Florida Gators win over the Buckeyes, the Gator players let their play do the talking for them. Chris Leak had a great game and the score was never close. Running back/quarterback Tim Tibow had a great game as well.

So what is my prediction of the final score of the football game? I think that the game would be closer then most people think. Odds makers and sports betters would probably favor Florida by two touchdowns. The Boise State offense will keep the quick Gators defense on their heels through trick plays. My final score of the game would be 38-31 Gators. The Boise State defense showed that they have trouble stopping the running game but the Florida Gators run offense isn't that strong and they have no true running back. Still, the Florida passing attack is very good and Boise State would have major problems on defense.

After the Gators bored the nation by destroying Ohio State on national television, the Boise State- Florida game would be much more entertaining with trick plays and high scores. This game would further the underdog story that sports love to promote as a small team from Boise takes on another powerhouse team in Florida. However, one thing is for sure, the Gators will eliminate all doubts that they are the true national champions with a win in the ultimate bowl game.
