Imagine Full Privileges at the Famous Atlantis Hotel Without Paying Atlantis Prices

Bahamas on a Budget

Lynda Braun
Have you ever dreamed of staying at the world famous, Atlantis Hotel in Paridise Island? You know, the hotel with the fancy Royal Towers that can be seen frequently on television commercials. Dolphins, sharks, turtles, aquariums, slides, lazy river, casino, beach, pools, kids' club, etc. Prices begin at around $400 per night and continue rising to well over $1000 per night. What if I told you there is a way to have full hotel priviledges for $250 per night, including a full deluxe continental breakfast? Interested? You can stay at the Comfort Suites, which is directly next, to the Atlantis, and simply walk next door. It is truly amazing and not a very well known fact. But, now you know. In addition, Comfort Suites honors Triple A, Military, and Senior discounts.I recommend checking online frequently, for prices do fluctuate depending on the season. Summer is always off-season so this would be a perfect budget vacation. It would be to your advantage to book only 3-4 nights. This will save you money on hotel accomodations and food. My family and I have traveled on several vacations staying only 4 days and they have always been fantastic. There is nothing wrong with ending a vacation and everyone really wants to stay longer, for then you have that perfect feeling of totally enjoying every moment of your trip.

The next tip is to secure the best airfare that you can. At this point, Continental Airlines is offering a great price of $218 round trip from New York to Nassau, Bahamas. Every other airline has a higher price between $300 to over $400. Keep in mind, that airfares fluctuate regularly, so it is to your benefit to check online regularly. I have
been known to save several hundred dollars by doing this, particularly in the wee hours of the morning.

The Atlantis Hotel has free bus transportation. Don't forget to bargain and you may be surprised at what great handmade items you can purchase. When we went to the Straw Market it was a learning experience for my children. My eleven year old son met a boy who was only twelve, working with his cousin selling handmade, coconut turtles. My son started to talk with him and soon realized how poor some of these people are. He bought a coconut turtle and his new friend, "Adar" said, "Thank you so much, now we can buy lunch." Upon hearing that, my son gave Adar a five dollar bill and said, "Now, you can have dinner, too." This was quite an eye-opening learning experience, for it is always wonderful to learn about a different culture. This coconut turtle has become one of my son's prized possessions. In his world filled with video games, our trip to the Bahamas was worth everything, because of the lessons it taught about humanity. Near the Straw Market is "The Pirate Museum," which is interactive, informative, and very enjoyable. Stop for an ice cream cone across from the Straw Market, and you will have spent a wonderful morning. Then head back to the beach or slides to swim with the sharks and relax. Sounds wonderful, because it is! (Don't worry, the sharks are enclosed in glass, but this is a wonderful experience)

Next, by having a free breakfast, you might only need a snack in the afternoon, which will allow you to save money during the day. Then you can splurge if you want to on a nice dinner. I would recommend eating dinner in Nassau since the prices at the Atlantis restaurants can be quite high. When we stayed there, we went to a small local restaurant called "The Blue Marlin" in the Hurricane Hole Marina, where the food was authentic and inexpensive. This restaurant is within walking distance from the hotel. But the best part, was being entertained by a free show during the meal that was amazing! An entertainer called "Action" performed with fire, coconuts, limbo, and live interaction. Not only did my two sons, 18 and 11, enjoy the show, but every adult in the restaurant was totally enthralled. Another night, we went to "Cafe Johnny Canoe's" located in the Nassau Beach Hotel, and at 8PM on Friday evenings, a 'junkanoo' parade with a band entertained you while you dined. Their costumes are made of crepe paper and with caribbean rhythm they play cowbells, blow horns and whistles, and bang goat skin drums. This is totally awesome! Perhaps, you can order pizza or fast food the other two nights, and you will find that you can keep to your budget. Doesn't this sound like an incredible trip?

I hope I have given you some good tips on saving money, yet truly living it up! My family and I had such a fantastic time, and I know you will love every minute of your trip. I'll be waiting to hear from you. Enjoy!
