Immigration in the US

The offsetting of the economy would be losing potential investors in both our economy and products and the promotion of outsourcing
In terms of either increasing or decreasing the amount of money that is spent on border patrol and security, the amount should not necessarily increase or decrease yet remain the same and be spent more efficiently in doing specifically that, patrolling borders and ensuring security to our country.

As suggested by Griswold as well as our current president, issuing temporary work visas is a great idea for several reasons. By issuing temporary work visas individuals interested in coming to the U.S. would be able to get a sneak peak of how life here really is, as opposed to the many misconceptions that they come initially come to the country with. In this way also immigrants would not have to even consider coming to the U.S. illegally, but instead live and work legally with the peace of mind that they are doing the right thing, and even in the case that they are not happy in the country that they are free to leave at any time, as it is only a temporary visa. Some people in still developing and underdeveloped countries only dream of having the chance of working for some time to better themselves and their families back home. Issuing temporary work visas would have a long lasting positive effect on a person in relationship to their stay at the U.S., and this is always a good thing.

Not only would issuing temporary work visas help potential immigrants to the U.S. but it would also help to improve and create longer lasting bonds between the U.S. and other foreign nations, as technically the immigrants coming to the U.S. would be considered an exchange of goods/services between two parties, and business always brings two parties closer together as they have now something in common that concerns them. The Patriot Act basically states that the government has the right to "spy" on its citizens. It gives them the right to listen into conversations, read emails, intercept messages, or whatever it takes in order for them to do what they believe is ensuring the well being of our country. When debating whether this act violates the rights of legal immigrants or other foreigners that are visiting the U.S. there are two separate components in the argument. From a technical standpoint it does not in any way considering the fact that it is 100% legal from all aspects. On the other hand it could be debated whether if it is in any way ethical or idealistically correct. Every citizen or foreigner visiting our country is entitled to his or her personal life that should not be invaded by anyone. Looking back to when this country was first established.

US immigration has been a concern of mine for quite some time. I am American and my wife is from Venezuela... so I am very familiar with the racial profiling that occurs when crossing US Borders. This country is far from being the "land of the free". I created a 5 minute short film that deals with the anxiety and frustration created when passing through US Customs.
