Immortal Sunrise

A New Moon Themed Poem in a Twilight Inspired Valentine' Day Series

Laura J. Lovell
I shuffle my feet and I stare up at you with nervous infatuation.
I sense something in your smile; your touch lingers with hesitation.

There is something on your mind; your distracted look sends chills down my spine.
You say the right things, but your kiss is inflamed in sorrow. Your empty words echo that everything is fine.

As you walk away, darkness sets upon my joyful heart.
Has anyone ever known this dimension of hurt?
The tears are endless, soul feels numb,
all I can do is curl up in a ball on the hard, cool dirt.

The pain is heated with each jagged breath, my tormented heart thuds your name in each beat.
The danger growls with the rev of the engine, as I slowly slide into the restored leather seat.

I long for cause to hear your sweet voice,
I haven't heard since late September, torn between never wanting to forget but aching to remember.

A friend fills my day, with a smile so bright;
his outlook on my future almost seems inspiring,
It works for awhile, I'm almost believable,
yet Charlie always said beware of a wolf in sheep's clothing.

Alice is back but she bears bad news, signals are crossed, the air is doggedly tense,
He will not believe it nor will he listen, going is the only way to be sure, it only makes sense.

Sides are chosen, I'm no longer on my best behavior,
he tries to stop me, there's no competition, my loyalty will not waiver.

I race through the sea of red robes, the clock ticking louder as I come into view of the tower.
I see your face, now it's harder to breathe; I run in slow motion, every step seems like an hour.

Heaven is right in your arms as we return to each other,
there are no words to express what I hold in my heart for you,
this blissful love, feelings I tried to, but could not manage to smother.

Your love never faded, I discover with such a welcome relief
although we now bargain for our lives because of your endless selflessness and your guilty grief.

We are free and alone in my room, as a sparkling new day has begun.
Clinging to you, I can foresee the immortal sunrise on the horizon.

Your lips curl into that magical smile, more brilliant than the elusive Forks sun,
blinded by love, your all I can see...What can be better than this moment?
But all of time stops when you say...Marry Me?
