Implementing "Green" Clothing into Your Wardrobe

Gwendolyn Taylor
Clothes shopping can be a weakness for many and every year many clothes get thrown away. Most mass merchandised clothing are made from synthetic material or manufactured cotton, all which have a big impact on the environment in a not so positive way. Turning to earth friendly, natural clothing can help less man made material clothing be produced and less unwanted clothing left around to waste.

There are three types of popular natural material used to make apparel today. These three types are organic cotton, bamboo, and hemp. All of these have minimal to no impact on the environment, where they are grown without the use of pesticides and manufactured through a process that require less use of machinery and little of the material goes to waste. Most often these are also grown with natural colorant, so the use of synthetic, harmful dyes is unnecessary. Clothing made from organic cotton is the most popular type and as our society is becoming more environmentally conscious, apparel made from organic cotton has been popping in well know stores everywhere.

All natural recycled fiber has also been a popular material used for clothing as well. Basically any particles of loose threads that come off or are lost during the process of making the organic cotton, bamboo, or hemp into clothing is rounded up and used to create new articles of clothing.

The benefits and pros of purchasing and wearing earth friendly apparel does not just end at being favorable for the environment. People who have sensitive skin will prefer to wear clothing that is not made from synthetic fiber and dyed with harsh irritants. Also, people with allergens would be more comfortable wearing apparel made from all natural and organic material. Purchasing bedding that is made with earth-friendly material is also a big plus for those with allergens or skin sensitivity.

Natural clothing can be found in many retail stores and online clothing retailers. Although, organic clothing can be a little more pricey than most man made synthetic apparel, if you think about it some popular name brands retail their synthetic fiber made clothing for double or triple the price, so still the benefits to the earth and to you of buying natural fiber clothing are well worth it.
