I went to the dentist as a child and I always hated it. My Mom cared enough to make sure we had regular visits even though it was costly and we had no dental insurance. I was fitted for a retainer a teenager. I went to a camp that summer after having it for six months and I lost the retainer.
After my family spent so much on it and dental work, my professional dental care went out the window for a while. I never really had a regular dentist after that for years. I would brush my teeth but I still neglected them to a degree and lost a few one by one although four of them were wisdom teeth.
When I did start working, I didn't have dental insurance then either and I was younger then too. I blew my money on entertainment or clothes or things that really didn't matter. I was irresponsible with my money when I did have some before starting to pay rent, etc. I didn't take dental care seriously then. I guess now that I'm in my mid-thirties it's become one of my number one health priorities to take care of because of the sobering fact that adult teeth will never grow back.
Who wants to have full dentures in their thirties? My mom did and I want to break that curse before it happens to me. So I found a discount dental plan online by doing a search and came up with www.dentalplans.com . I've got it paid up for 14 months now. (I bought a year and they gave me three extra months and it's already starting to save me on dental work.)
When money is tight sometimes a compromise is in order. Dental care is expensive. However, it would be money well spent. Isn't your health worth it? Infections or gum disease in the mouth can pose serious health risks for the rest of the body if left untreated. Please don't ignore a problem and wait too late. I can't go back in time and correct my mistakes but perhaps I can inspire someone else to keep their teeth healthy and complete.
Maybe it's just a lesson you have to learn the hard way but the best way to learn something is by observation, to learn from other people's mistakes and not fall into the same trap. I should know. I've made plenty of mistakes and I regret that I didn't learn by examples.
I appeal to whoever reads this to give time and attention to proper dental care. Invest in yourself. Invest in a healthier, happier you. Your teeth will thank you and I'll thank you too. Be good to your teeth and I hope you can light your corner of the globe with a sparkly smile.
