Christmas is just around the corner. Being prepared ahead of time with all of the necessary arrangements will save you time, money, aggravation and make for a more enjoyable experience for you and your guests. When it comes to throwing a successful Christmas party, there are several dos and don'ts. Follow these Christmas party tips will enable you to host a party everyone will enjoy and remember.

Christmas Party Dos

Send out formal invitations. Make sure to send out your invitations at least a month prior to your party. The earlier your party invitations are received, then the longer your guests will have in order to make the appropriate arrangements regarding attending.

Decorate. What's a Christmas party without Christmas decorations? There should be a Christmas tree, Christmas-themed napkins, cups and more. Make sure to have plenty of green, red, gold and silver decorations around such as stalkings, a wreath, bells, lights and nutcrackers.

Have plenty of good food. Food is very important when it comes to any party. If you have the means, hiring a caterer can take care of all of your food-related issues. However if you plan on making your own food, be sure to plan your menu well ahead of time. Make all of the food that will keep a day or two in advance so that there is little to no preparation come the day of your Christmas party.

Party favors. Party favors are items that you give out to everyone who came to your party before they leave. The intention of the party favor is to give them an item to remember what a special occasion they had. Many Web sites will sell party favors; however, you can also make your own.

Check all your preparations. It is important to make sure that all of your preparations are set before guests arrive so that nothing is missing. Last-minute touches ensure you have enough plates and silverware.

Christmas Party Don'ts

Don't buy tacky Christmas decorations. There is a world of difference when it comes to Christmas decorations. A well-made decoration can be visually stunning, whereas a tacky decoration

Don't rely on guest bringing food While you may encourage guests to bring pot luck and other food to your party, it can be very hit or miss. People often tend to not bring food items, or if the do then there is no guaranteeing that it will taste good. Relying heavily on guest contributions because you can not afford a caterer or because you do not want to do the cooking yourself can easily result in a party that has no or bad food.

Don't invite your friend Steve, or your uncle John If you are inviting family members, do not invite anybody that is annoying and will ruin your party. A great way to get around this without hurting their feelings is to send them an invitation with the wrong date. When they show up on the wrong date, chances are that you won't mind seeing them if they are indeed an actual friend.

Don't post about your party on the internet. One of the many features of social media websites such as Facebook and Myspace is the ability to create events for all of your friends to see. If you are limiting the people that are coming then you do not want everyone to see that you are having a Christmas party because people that you didn't invite may come.

Don't buy a keg When hosting a Christmas party you may want to have some of the seasonal drinks, such as eggnog. Despite wanting to buy a ton of liquor for your Christmas party, it is best to keep it simple with only rum. Make sure to let guest know to BYOB (bring your own beer).

By following the above Christmas party tips of dos and don'ts, you will have a successful party not only for you, but your guests as well. It may even go so well that it could turn into a yearly tradition. Despite how busy you may become preparing for your Christmas party, do not forget to do your holiday shopping

Sending invitations out with the wrong date seems hurtful and in very bad taste.
