Important Facts About Methane, Emissions Trading and Global Warming

Kevin Brown
One of the elements of our environment that produces the so called climate change in a stronger way is a greenhouse gas called methane.

One of the problems of this element is that if is in the upper atmosphere can remain there up to 15 years. Also methane can increase the heat in the environment like any other emission.

Methane by itself is not a poison for us, just in excessive quantities is a real danger. This element is good in low quantities due to the fact that it acts as a regulator of the temperature in the atmosphere.

As we said the problem with methane is when it is in excess. Why? Because it can become a sponge for infrared radiation, getting high temperatures for our environment, and remember the fact that it can remain for years in the upper atmosphere is one of the most dangerous elements.

Some laws must be created to reduce these emissions of methane by petroleum, factories, coal mining and many others. The advantage we have it that we know that methane can be used as a source of energy itself. Creating new technologies that use methane as a source of energy, we can solve this problem letting methane be its own killer.

If we want to survive in this planet we must act quickly in the reduction of methane emissions.

Many people say that global warming is an illusion, or this is just publicity, but the fact is that governments are making laws to protect the environment, Tsunami, New Orleans among others are realities. But the relation between economy and global warming could be more important than we may think of.

Every society in the history of humankind has an economic environment. The production of manufacturing products is the base of the major economies of the world. The production of greenhouse gases is mainly produced by these activities.

Today there is a conflict between production and environment. But now a new invention has arrived and it is called emissions trading.

Emission trading is basically is an agreement between countries or between countries and its industries or between industries to give a benefit or a penalty, depending on the amount of pollution produced.

An example could spread some light. If an organization is bellowing its pollution amount, the business can sell its benefits to other company or to a country. Brazil is a good example of this kind of trading, because they are selling emission credits to the open market.

But the emissions trading systems is not new. Many years ago United States of America made the Clean Air Act, a law about emissions trading. We think that with the Kyoto Treaty, this system will have international scale.
