Imports Find Themselves at the Top of NADAguides.com's Most Popular Hybrid Car's List

Gas prices have been dropping in recent months, but they are still much above earlier lows prior to Katrina a couple years ago. The reality is increased gas prices are a fact of life. The way consumers combat that is by finding fuel efficient cars. Hybrids are a popular choice. Hybrids combine two different sources of power for their vehicles, both gas and electric. The combination of these two sources of energy make them more fuel efficient and in the long run a better bargain. The upfront cost is slightly higher than traditional cars that run only on gas, but the fuel savings add up over the life of the cars. So, what are the most popular hybrid models? NADAguides.com has released a press release to inform us of the most popular choices on their website.

Potential car buyers do quite a bit of research at NADAguides.com, and the most researched cars quite often indicate what the voice of public opinion is leaning towards in vehicle choices. Toyota models took three out of the top five spots on the top ten list, and imports held the top six spots on this list as well.

The 2007 Toyota Prius was the most researched hybrid vehicle in July on the website. Toyota also had their 2007 Camry's hybrid model come in at 4th on the list and their Toyota Highlander hybrid model ranked number five. The other imports in the top six included the second ranked 2007 Civic hybrid and the sixth ranked Accord hybrid from Honda. Nissan has their Altima hybrid joining the import parade at number three.

The American hybrids round out the top ten with the 2007 Saturn VUE coming in at number seven and the 2007 Lexus RX 400H at number eight. Meanwhile Ford has the final two on the top 10 with their 2007 and 2008 models of the Ford Escape coming in at numbers nine and 10 respectively.

The press release indicates that sales of hybrid cars jumped 50% in just six months during the period from January to July of this year. Even more impressive was an increase in hybrid sales of 40.7% in July when compared with June according to the press release. July was a very strong year for the Toyota Prius with 16,000 sold during the month in 2007. This was a huge advantage in sales volume compared with the second largest seller the Toyata Camry hybrid vehicle that had 4,329 cars sold. The Honda Civic was the model with the third most units sold among hybrid vehicles in July with 2,493 sold.
