Impress Your Lady This Valentines Day

Valentines Day (the 14th of February in case you forgot!) is an important event for couples to celebrate their romance and spoil each other. It should be a fun day, but sometimes gentlemen have a mental blank when it comes to thinking up something special, and begin to stress needlessly. Read on Clueless Casanovas, a few simple, fool-proof points will help guide you in the ways to impress your lady this Valentines Day.

First of all, you should be well aware that each woman is an individual and does not want to be grouped together with every other woman in the world as some sort of cliché. Despite insisting that they are all totally unique, there are a few universal gifts that are all but guaranteed to give a universal response (generally speaking the response is a squeak, big hug and lots of kisses).

Roses: Yes, it is obvious. Yes, it is cliché. However, roses are one of the most classic, romantic symbols in our culture. Whether they're red, pink, white or your lady's favourite colour it's hard to go wrong with roses. They're beautiful, smell nice and wont cause her to put on weight (a common nightmare among women). The added bonus to roses is that they eventually dry out and die, so you can give fresh roses every year without being concerned about giving her something she already has.

Chocolates: Another obvious choice, but be careful with this one. Do your best to remember your Lady's favourites, and whether she has any allergies. There are few situations more awkward on Valentine's Day than giving a box full of chocolate seashells with hazelnut praline filling to your beloved, only to be reminded that they cannot eat them.

Jewellery: Jewellery can be a risky gift to give if you're not sure of your Lady's taste in such things. If you decide to follow this path, be careful to select something that she will like and use: don't give earrings for pierced ears if her ears are not pierced!

Go Out Somewhere Special: Lunch or Dinner at a restaurant, seeing a movie, river cruise, picnic on the beach... going somewhere special shows forethought and planning and can be an ideal Valentines Day for new romances and established relationships alike. The event will depend on what you and your lady enjoy, but be careful to ensure that it is genuinely something you both enjoy, not something you just wanted to do and deciding Valentines Day is as good an excuse as any.

Staying In and Doing Something Special: A sweet (and economic) way to spend Valentines Day is to stay at home and cook a special meal together (I suggest you share the washing up or offer to do it yourself). It can be an excellent opportunity to just talk and rediscover why you love each other so much. Romantic music and candlelight, or your favourite movies, over a hot chocolate or special dessert is a simple, sweet and stress free way to spend Valentine's Day.

Whatever you chose to do for Valentines Day this year, the most important thing is to let your Lady know that you really love her, and want her to remember this day and smile.
