Improve Circulation in Legs, Ankles and Feet With Exercises

Donna Daniels
Circulation in the legs, ankles and feet can become sluggish when we do everyday things to inhibit blood to flow. Old age and diabetes can prevent blood flow to the legs, ankles and feet. Hardening of the arteries is a problem that prevents blood to flow to the legs, ankles and feet. You can try some exercises to bring your blood circulating to your legs, ankles and feet. Here are some you can try.

A good rubdown on the muscles of your legs, ankles and feet can help circulation to improve and it will also help the muscles to warm up to the idea of some exercise. A warm bath will also help the muscles prepare for some stretching. Stretching is a good way to improve circulation in your legs, ankles and feet.

Take off your shoes and sit in a comfortable chair or on a bed and rotate your ankles and feet into a little circle motion. Make your feet make circles as long as you like. Then point your toes as much as you can until you feel tired. Then move your toe forward and try to get them to reach your knees. You can get your toes to reach your knees but you want your toes forward like they are trying to reach your knees.

Spread your toes as far apart as you can and then have your toes squeeze together as much as they can. Repeat this process three or more times. Massage your toes with your hand and concentrate on massaging in-between the toes where the toe meets the foot.

Move your feet to the left and then to the right. Then move your feet forward and point your toes. Repeat this simple exercise as many times as you like to help blood circulation.

Sit on something that is too tall for you so that your feet dangle without touching anything. You can sit on a tall stool or on the arm of a sofa. If you have a pickup truck the tailgate would be perfect to sit on while you dangle. As your feet dangle you can wiggle them. You can start out wiggling them gently and then move them more. Rotate your feet into a circle. Move you lower legs forward and backward. Feel the muscles and tendons stretch as you move your legs back and forth.

These are some simple exercises that you can do to help improve circulation in your lower legs. You can do them as often as you wish to help get the blood flowing.
