Learning a foreign language is an exciting journey. Learning a foreign language is a great way to learn about another culture, while making travel more enjoyable. Yet, learning a foreign language is not an easy task. Much like marathon training, it takes a lot of time, and involves several hurdles.

The biggest factor keeping people from learning a foreign language is a lack of motivation. Months of learning take place, and people often find it frustrating because they find the language difficult and going nowhere. For a person to be successful in learning a foreign language, they must remind themselves of why they want to learn the language in the first place. What was the driving factor behind in all, what told them to pick up that book and start learning? For some, learning a foreign language is an accomplishment, for others it might be an upcoming trip to another country. Either way, something is motivating the person to take the language, and the person must remind themselves of their motivation. Without constant reminders of why one is taking the language, the study will become boring, and something never bothered with again.

The second step involves learning a foreign language through visuals. By using the aid of visuals, a person will find themselves sometimes remembering the image, and thereby helping the chance of remembering the word. The German word, "Truppen", meaning troops, sounds similar to the English word "Trumpet". Imagining troops playing the trumpet could cause one to remember the image of troops playing the trumpet. The use of visuals will help aid improving foreign language abilities.

Another tip involves the usage of those with the speaking abilities in that language. If the person is a college student, they should use their college's professors to help them further their knowledge of the language. By using a professor, one will have the ability to engage in conversations with someone having a strong background in the subject. This in turn, will increase the person's interest and knowledge of the subject.

The last tip regards using streaming television and websites to help foster the development of the language. Websites such as BeelineTV are allowing views to stream television stations throughout the world, free of charge. Watching the television shows means offering the learner to watch the students from a person fluent in the language. In addition to streaming television, visiting websites allow the individual to see the grammatical rules put together through articles relating to the news and events of today and the past. Taking the media into account provides the student with first hand access to the language and increased likelihood of mastering the language's grammar and speaking aspects.

Learning another language involves reading a countless amount of hours reading textbooks and attending classes. While both are necessary, the person might find themselves losing interest in the subject. By applying the skills above, alongside class and reading textbooks, the person will learn the language at a faster rate and with a higher level of motivation, than traditional methods.
