The reason a Human Resource professional is thought of so negatively is the functional breakdown of the communication process. If the Human Resource professional doesn't explain their role and the employee doesn't understand their role, not clarity will be generated.
A proven way to create a workplace of clarity is to understand the basic principles of a Human Resource professional.
People Driven Performance
During successful times during business, who gets the reward and praise? More times than not it is the leader of the organization. Ask a Human Resource professional and they will tell you the people that performed the work generate the success. The common ground between the two must be reached. Both sides are correct, but the Human Resource professional has the clarity on their side. The leader of an organization is ultimately responsible and thus praise should go in their direction. But the leader must possess high levels of humility and congratulate the people who made them successful.
Mentorship
To truly understand the value of people, invest time developing them. An initiative of a Human Resource professional will be talent development. The greatest CEO's in the world started somewhere and were mentored by high level thinkers before them. Mentorship involves learning about the person, understanding their deficiencies, creating a plan for improvement, and assisting them in being successful. The final reward of mentorship is the feeling of fulfillment when they are successful.
Being a leader is not just a process a Human Resource professional follows, but the entire organization. Qualities of genuine leadership should be engrained within every leader and not taught. A Human Resource professional is a reinforcement tool. Utilize a Human Resource professional as a resource. They are the most knowledgeable about people processes. Their knowledge can be incorporated into a leadership style which will empower the people being managed.
Without a collaborative relationship between a Human Resource professional and an employee, the success of the business will falter. Remember, Human Resource professionals do more than manage people issues, they are value the issues of the people.
