Improve Your Life; Improve Yourself

"Tidy desk, tidy mind." How true that oft-repeated saying is! Establishing order in your life and work is a proven fast track to self-improvement, but a balanced person needs to consider more than just work and organization. Your career must be balanced with your contentment level, your relationships, your health, and your goals so you are fully equipped to have what you want out of life.

If you have mastered order and organization in your work life, then consider other areas of your life. Are you making time for your family and yourself? Have the demands of modern living and increased career emphasis led to decreased interactivity? Take steps to remedy that. You need to be surrounded by those who love you, and you need to let them know you love them. You draw much-needed energy from healthy companionships.

Don't forget to take time for just you! If you have been neglecting your personal time, stop. Personal time carved out just for you could be the opportunity you need to begin an exercise regimen, sport, or physically challenging hobby. Exercise produces essential chemicals in your body that many people lack. Exercise also helps to clear your mind and of course gets your body in better shape. Researchers at the University of Michigan found recently that middle-aged adults who regularly walk and work in the garden are far less likely to die in the next eight years than their sedentary counterparts, even if they are considered at high risk for a heart attack or stroke. The benefits of physical activity are positively endless! Staff at the Mayo Clinic have confirmed that regular exercise can improve your mood, boost your energy, and promote better sleep. Set progress goals for yourself. If you simply want to be healthier and fit, then set an achievement goal. Are you currently walking a mile a day? Shoot for five miles. Always be looking for ways you can improve your performance!

Maybe you need to combine your need for family and friend time with your need for exercise. Consider taking up a sport with your friends - we are social creatures, and our need for human interaction is natural, healthy, and pleasurable. Playing with friends can make exercise more interesting, fun and fulfilling. Your friends and family may provide the exact incentive you need to improve yourself, improve your health, and improve your life.
