We cannot control everything that happens in our lives, but we can choose to make changes to improve all areas of our lives. For example, we can eat less and exercise to become healthier and lose weight. We can diligently seek new job opportunities. We can attend counseling to improve our relationships. There is always something we can do to make our lives better. Allowing ourselves to become distracted, and procrastinate is not an option for those of us serious about changing our lives. Following a time line, focusing on the big picture, and taking action each day will lead us closer to our goals.
If you are struggling to change your life to no avail, you need to ask yourself what it is that you are unwilling to do. Please do not say that you have tried everything. No one has tried everything. Most of us do not even come close to trying everything. We usually give up on our goals after making minimum effort to accomplish them. Perhaps we just do not have enough patience, or we are so used to instant gratification. Accordingly, we buy things we do not need on credit, create unnecessary debt, suffer the consequences and blame the economy for our poor choices. We are not willing to borrow a book from the library that informs us how to balance our budgets and plan for the future. We do not want to take our lunch to work or shampoo our hair. We have become accustomed to convenience which is not always a good thing. Our lives are not Hollywood movies. We must create the life we want through our own efforts. We need to consistently learn new skills, develop good habits and form better relationships.
Do not look to the world for change and improvement. Look within and be the change you wish to see. Change begins with the self. We must learn to recognize when it is time for us to move on from life situations and make changes. Sometimes we face hardships because we continue working in the wrong profession, or staying in toxic relationships. If our friends are negative naysayers, we need to find some new friends. We could all use more alone time for self-improvement and personal reflection. In fact, spending time alone is essential in order to better understand ourselves and our sense of purpose.
As our self-awareness develops, making changes will become easier for us, and our lives will begin to improve. Take the necessary action to create the life you want. Do whatever it takes. Do not make excuses, make changes. Today is the first day of the rest of your life. How do you plan to spend it?
