Improving Your Home's Appearance: Giving Your House Curb Appeal

Giving your home's curb appeal a boost does not have to mean making major renovations to your property. You can increase the value of your home with a few simple changes. Below are some ideas for projects which make your home more attractive and increase your curb appeal while remaining easy on your pocketbook.

You can begin to improve the curb appeal of your home, by making sure your house and windows are clean. Renting a power washer will make easy for you to clean siding and outside windows in a short amount of time. The cleaner your home is, inside and out, the more curb appeal it has to the potential buyer.

Take a look at the color of your home. While you may want the majority of the exterior to be a neutral color, think about adding a splash of personality with a bold colorful door! Doors in colors such as red, dark green, burgundy or even a rich purple can be attractive accents and up your curb appeal quickly.

If you do sand and paint your front door, step back and take a look. Now, how about some new hardware? Jazz up the locks and hinges to make a great first impression on people who come into your home.

Windows can also add to curb appeal. Plastic shutters are available in a wide variety of colors. These shutters look great framing windows and they are durable and easy to maintain. Be sure to coordinate them with your front door for an overall look of sophistication and elegance.

As the weather warms up, select some seasonal widow boxes for splashes of color. Window boxes come in many designs and can be installed in a few hours for a fun new look.

Landscaping will help your home's curb appeal. Be sure your lawn is mowed and well taken care of. Promptly remove weeds and fill any holes that may exist. Spending a few hours raking away debris can increase the value of your home by hundreds of dollars. You may want to think about clustering a few simple pots of flowers on your steps to create a welcoming environment.

If you have pets, clean up after them regularly. (Remember not everyone is an "animal" person) Cleaning up their messes will help keep your lawn healthier too.

ยท Be sure to keep railings and posts painted for maximum curb appeal. Peeling painted or obvious rust spots may detract from the value of your property and reduce the curb appeal of your home.

Try to keep lawn ornaments to a minimum or remove them all together. While you may find pink flamingoes fun and whimsical, they may not leave that impression on other people who are viewing your home. (Just because you put them away to bust curb appeal and help sell your home, does not mean they have to be gone forever! Save them for the new home.)

If you have curtains for your window, make sure they are clean and well-fitted to the pane. Neat clean curtains enhance your windows and look better from the inside and out!

Improving your home's curb appeal may involve a few hours of work but it will definitely pay off in the end by helping you get a better selling price for your property!
