Improving Your Memory

Stop the Negative Thinking

Thinking negatively can cause you to forget, and worrying is a really bad habit that can effect both health and memory. This sends the mind a message to forget. Your subconscious mind collects everything....what you see, hear, feel, smell, and think.

Stop - look - Listen

Focus on thing around you. This is called "creating original awareness" . Focusing is made up of 3 basic combinations of things: seeing and hearing (paying attention to things around you) Look and listening. ( seeing and hearing what is around you.) and comprehending and digesting (putting it all together.)

Using Acronyms

Using acronyms can help memory. This is the process of using the first letter of each word in a phrase to remember it, such as: ASAP means As Soon As Possible. ... SASE means Self-Addressed Envelope ... MADD means: Mothers Againest Drunk Drivers. Making acronyms for phrases makes it easier to remember the phrase you need to remember. The same goes for the names in your carpool, if you have one.

Creating Acrostics

This is about like the acronyms, but in this, you use the first letters in a GROUP of words that are the same thing. Like in music, we learn that the notes on the line in the staff are: E, G, B, D, F.... Every Good Boy Does Fine. Here is another, if you have trouble with the planet's of the Solar System.... My Very Earthly Mother Just Severed Us Nine Pizzas. There, you have all 9 planets listed, and in order!

Remembering Numbers

This is my personal favorite. If your or anybody's phone number is of a historical year, try and connect that to an event that happened in that year. Even numbers that start with '0' are historical... here you think ancient history, just take the last 3 numbers, tack a historical event to it, then add the 0 in front.

Numbers starting with 3 or higher, break up in two, like take 3513 would be something like" Tom is 35 and has 13 bro's and sister's. Or.... Tom will be 35 in the year 2013.

Keeping you Mind Healthy

Just like you keep your body healthy, you need to keep your mind healthy. With good nutrition, rest and a good attitude is a great start to a heathly mind. Working on word games, such as crossword puzzles, word search games and scrabble helps keep the mind sharp. Any games that make you think and reading helps keep the mind in a healthy state.
