MSNBC "Imus in the Morning" Hosts Racist Comments

Don Imus Regrets "Nappy Headed Ho's" Comment?

Once again a Don Imus is feeling the heat over a racist comment, and well, he is apologizing of course!

Last Wednesday on the nationally syndicated television news program on MSNBC, "Imus in the Morning", Imus once again, managed to offend a whole race of people, as well as women in general. The mumbling talk show host was carrying on a conversation about the Rutgers women's basketball team when he referred to them as "some nappy headed ho's". He went on to describe them as "...some rough girls from Rutgers, they got tattoos...". He compared them to the Tennessee women's team adding "The girls from Tennessee, they all looked cute." As if this was not bad enough, the producer Bernard McGuirk chimed in with his description calling them a bunch of "jigaboos and wannabes'.
According to the PRNewswire, the American Association of Black Journalists are outraged by the comments."The disrespectful comments by Don Imus were degrading to women," said Gregory Lee, chairman of the NABJ Sports Task Force. Gregory Lee wants to what MSNBC is going to do about this being as they are aligning their reputation along side a character such as this Imus washup. So do I!

As a woman, and a 'minority' I am offended. Calling a woman a 'ho' is just disgusting. And to hear 'jigaboos' in 2007 is disgraceful. I am all for freedom of speech. But come on people! This is MSNBC a supposedly reputable new broadcasting station. I don't feel this is the place for a "Shock Jock' as Imus. Howard Stern moved over to Sirius...I think you should pack up too Mr. Imus, although I doubt you will have a following like your arch nemesis. I am sure there are a few woman haters and bigots that would follow you over there though.

If you are in defense of Imus's statements, shame on you. I have read on a few forums, comments by people (mostly white men) stating things like 'people are too sensitive' and 'some Americans are too thin skinned', and 'why do we always have to be politically correct?'. I am not one to keep my opinion to myself. However, name calling, and general bigotry is beneath me.
I personally won't listen to an old man ranting, and putting down an awesome women's basketball team, because they are not "cute". The 'political commentators' I tune into listen to are more civilized, and won't lower themselves to putting women down because they are strong women! I would never say 'lets get him off the air' because that is not America. But what I would say, is the Weather Channel has a better program on at that time of the morning! I won't be watching MSNBC for a while.

Don was wrong and should be punished for his slick of the mouth. It's not acceptable to be in the public eye and to make comments about any race in a negative manner.

I think it's just another discriminating acts that our country is so good at. We killed the Indians, we enslaved the Blacks and stole all their ideas and made money off them. We built the railroads on the back on the Chinese. Yeap! it's nothting unnormal for America we are still teaching sepearation, difference, white mean it's right, inferioty races are beneath the white race. It all things I have learned since I've been in America. When I was in Germany it was nice not to worry about racism like you are in America. You are constantly reminded of racism on a daily basis. It's the American Way! It's just a matter of time all great empires fall. Read history books. America is no different it will pay for all it's cruelty and being a country that breeds racism.

'Why did she insert the qualifier "old man"? I can think of no reason but that she wishes to express contempt and believes that a reference to Mr. Imus's age and gender will heighten the contempt she directs at him." No,I was actually making an insinuation that his views are old and tired. Think deeper Sir.

The phrase nappy headed ho has now been repeated millions of times, tens of thousands of times in the media. Nappy Headed Ho will now be a part of the American lexicon, thanks to the people who wanted to make a big issue out of this. Freedom of speech is alive - but only if you don't value your job or your life. This does seem to be an attack on conservative minded people. Rosie O'Donnell has made even more inflamatory remarks about the President and other conservatives - why doesn't the left pick up on that? Ooooops, I forgot, the left don't eat their own.

i love a good nappy headed ho! He is on tv to say this sort of stuff. He is supposed to be funny. I thought it was very funny! Why is it ok for other entertainers to say degrading things? I always here Chris Rock calling white people crackers. It cracks me up. Lighten up, GEEZ. I'll miss you Don. Maybe he'll come to sattelite radio.

so jeanriva...it is not the same thing as saying curly blond....i won't accept this sudden nonchalantness in regards to "mere" words.

this was direct liable. He called the team ho's therefore saying that they are either prostitutes or that they sleep around with many different men he should be fired or sued, whether you are for racism or not that is the law

Strange but true - censor the press - make way for those who love censorship- in any of it's veiled forms. Not an Imus fan - not a Voltaire' fan - just a simple man - who knows that a burnt book that was read - isn't dead. Imus isn't the issue - neither are those who deserved and receieved an apology from him - maybe the issue is more about big companies that cut and run? - at any rate, am glad to see your article here, put one up for grabs myself, am sure others did as well - JoyAnn this was a nicely written piece, way to go! -Dana

Does his sidekick get any heat for calling them ho's?

Ironically, the two week suspension Imus got should make his ratings skyrocket. I wouldn't doubt if he has a 10x or larger listening base after this. Strange but true.
