In the Battle for the Fast Food Customer's Dollar Taco Bell Introduces $2 Combo Meals.

What Will McDonald's and Burger King Do to Counter This.

Jay Braun
Fast food is a very competitive industry these days. With the economy the way it is consumers are trying to stretch their dollars even further. Typically hamburger restaurants like McDonald's, Burger King, and Wendy's often lead the way. Taco Bell actually seems to have made a key move in the ever challenging chess game that is the fast food restaurants price war. Taco Bell has answered the $1 double cheese burgers from McDonald's, Wendy's and Burger King with a whole meal for $2. This is defiantly the first time that a meal was offered at such a low price. The closest thing to this offering was the appearance of the occasional reduced price happy meals or $1.99 Arby's adventure meals previously offered.

With dollar and value menus at McDonald's, Wendy's, and Burger king you would have to spend at least $3 to get a burger, fries and drink. The $2 Taco Bell combo meal will include a taco or burrito, medium drink and a bag of Doritos. You get the choice of five entrée choices of a Double Decker Taco, Chicken Burrito, Gordita Supreme or 5-Layer Burrito. This apparently will give you the most food for the least money in fast food.

I like Taco Bell and think it is a pretty good deal. Personally, I would prefer two entrees and a drink than the Doritos as a better deal. Only time will tell how much this drives business up for Taco Bell over the competition. I don't see McDonald's going out of business over this, but Taco Bell will get a boost in business especially in areas that surround schools and colleges were people are often the most value conscious. With an economy still in bad shape, many people out there that are looking for a good deal on a fast food meal.
