In Camouflage and Guns

Penny Harmon
The boys all dressed in camouflage and guns,
Put paint on their faces, prepared for fun.
They hid in the trees, their weapons drawn,
Waiting for their friends, the enemy to come along.
At the end of the battle, all tired from play,
The boys all laugh and make plans for the next day.

Now the boys are all grown and camouflage they still don,
Yet the guns are real, the plastic all gone.
In foxholes they wait, for the enemy to arrive,
And pray to their God, they'll stay alive.

We enjoy the freedom the boys are fighting for.
Yet what do we do in the middle of war?
We put up posters in protest and yell.
March in the street, saying "What the hell?"
Where do we get off, saying it's wrong,
Fighting a war, to keep our freedom strong.
