In Darkness

James R. Ford
I knew a man
who didn't know himself
sometimes he was right
other times very wrong

he wandered in circles through life
waiting for the light to shine
down on him
he knew darkness without light

in popular culture
he submerged himself
looking for the answer
only becoming more confused

once in a while
the light would shine on him
but he was too blind to see

so he ignored the truth
which would have set him free
and he kept the darkness,
the dark, cold lies of the pit,
hardened in his heart

he died from a self inflicted wound
in agony, he lived
in death, he died.

Thanks for comments. This one one of my favorites that I wrote this year.

That poor man...So many times, we just can't see the light behind the clouds...If we could only grasp how much God really loves us, then we would know how and where to find strength and hope. We should pray for that man's immortal soul...that he has somehow found peace at last.
