In Defense of Barack Obama

Dallas Bolen
I am tired of the election. John McCain, Sarah Palin, and the Republican Party have turned the race for President of the United States into a farce. Not a day goes by without wild accusations, and new rumors being circulated about Barack Obama.

Who cares if Obama is a Muslim? I have no doubts about his denial, but because of widespread Islamophobia, the Nation of Islam is seen as something evil. Christianity and the Muslim faith have so much in common, that it is hard to believe that at one time, they were not the same religion. Both the Christian Bible, and the Muslim Qua-ran feature the one god concept, and include the religious celebrities Jesus, Noah, Isaac, and Abraham. Both religions have their devout followers, their fundamentalists, and their zealots. Are the Terrorists that use the Muslim faith any different than David Coresh, Charles Manson, or some of the more recent Mormon situations? All of these atrocities had root in some kind of religious belief system. God has no place in the White House. The office of President of the United States is an elected office. Every devout follower, of every religion in America should band together and go in search of the Deity. Find out who he/she/it backs in the presidential election. Leave the free thinkers here to vote.

How many people realize that Barack Obama is not an African American? His mother, Ann Dunham, was a white American woman. Barack Obama embodies the "melting pot" idea that this country was founded on. I think that the African American and White American voters should take a step back and realize that Barack Obama can bring about the change that this country so desperately needs. As a bi-racial American, he can represent both races in the White House. I believe that as a child, Barack Obama faced a prejudice that can only be imagined by other bi or multi-racial people. Being of mixed racial heritage in the sixties and seventies probably was no picnic. Somehow this self made man overcame anything that may have, or may not have occurred in his early life. Barack Obama is handling the campaign with a warmth, dignity, and class that John McCain, even if he lives to be 172, will never achieve.

Last, enough of the name game! As one woman in West Virginia put it on the daily show, "I am tired of this Hussein...". Thanks to the Islamophobes again, Barack Hussein Obama II, is simply known as Barack Obama. All Muslim issues aside, it is a common practice in this country to name sons after the father, (George Senior, George Junior, anyone?). It does not matter who else carried the name Hussein, Barack Obama is being penalized for it. I really should not go any further, but this is America. Everyone has realized that Obama is one little letter away from Osama. What does it matter? Political tacticians have cleverly used both names in conjunction with the other. Do they really think that this nation is full of feeble minded idiots that cannot see the multitude of differences between Barack Obama and Osama Bin Laden? It is apparent to me that they do.

You should not feel sorry for Palin because she is a woman, word has it she is pretty handy with a rifle...

Oh, and Palin disagrees with abortion but she doesn't try to keep you from getting one. Obama supports abortion but he doesn't say I have to have one because of a diseased fetus or financial reasons. It's the same. Roe v. Wade takes care of that and there isn't a snow ball's chance in hell of that being overturned. Yes, McCain is against but his stand is let the states decide it not the federal government. So, even he is not saying you can't have an abortion, just that he believes in states rights.

So if someone thinks Palin is unqualified, it's okay to trash her and her family. Just remember there are 10's of millions who don't think Obama is qualified so I guess he's fair game too, God help us when we think it's okay to trash talk a woman and her family because we think she's politically unqualified. He is narcissistic and I know the meaning of th word.

No outcry is given to the treatment of Sarah Palin due to the fact that she shouldn't be there to start with. She's cute but I have yet to hear her say anything about how to make any difference in this country. She's simply there to pick up the female / lesbian vote which is a shame because she doesn't tolerate a woman having any say so over her own body whatsoever. Of course narcissism is a tricky word.. let's say you have a job or "thing" you want to win...you're qualified for it, but you can't simply score really high on a test or beat the snot out of your opponent to get said title / job...All you can do is pursuade people with your words...and your words should be mainly about how you feel about said job, you should display intellect, pride, and above all else...show some faith in yourself....if all is true then that's not narcissism

I feel your pain. I am tired of the total disrepect, rudeness, and ugliness towards Sarah Palin. Why don't you give some outcry about that? Dignity by Obama - please. He's narcissistic. Dignity - to make fun of McCain for not using a computer when he is somewhat limited by crushed limbs. Even Biden acknowledged this and said they should not have run the ad. Both parties could use a healthy dose of true honesty and dignity. When Obama or Michelle are accused of things like Sarah Palin: did not really give birth to her child or a member of a political party that wants to secede from the U.S., then I'll feel sorry for you. This is utterly cruel treatment.
