In the End

Julie Richards
Knowing our time is short, I dream of days to come.
I watch for you in every face that passes.
I yearn for your touch, your smile, your warm sweet caress.
I know the day will dawn when you are by my side.
When it is your shoulder I use as my pillow.
When the warmth of your body next to mine is all I need.
But my heart cries, no screams in agony.
I reach out to nothing.
You are not there.
I call for you.
You do not come.
You are away.
Doing what you need to.
For me. For our family. For us.
I know there is a life with you that I am to share.
I know there are years to enjoy with you.
Yet I wait.
But I know that
In the end
It is just the beginning.

I believe the best poems come from the writer's heart.
