In Haiti: As 8 Out of 10 Americans Leave Jail, 2 Remain Behind Bars
Justice for Laura and Charisa Still in Limbo!
The release order came from the office of Judge Bernard Saint-Vil Wednesday, but only allowing the group to leave Haiti unconditionally.
While their leader Laura Silsby, and another member Charisa Coulter, have to stay in Haiti in the custody of the authority to face further questioning on the alleged aborted kidnapping of 33 Haitian children; allegedly attempted to bring the kids out of the country without proper documentation.
The fate of Silsby and Coulter remain still in limbo, as the Judge and the prosecutors are still discussing the certainty of other criminal charges to file against the two.
According to sources, Silsby does not contest the Judge decision but Coulter's health reportedly is in a serious risk, since the latter suffers from diabetes, and was taken to a hospital for treatment earlier.
The missionaries have said they were planning to set up an orphanage in the neighboring Dominican Republic. However, many of the children involved in the case are not orphans and have parents living in Haiti. Who mostly testified they willingly sent their kids for adoption and they even requested to the authorities to release the accused Americans.
The 10 Americans missionaries were all charged with child trafficking and criminal conspiracy, which could be punished by lengthy prison terms, if found guilty.
But, according to some legal experts here in the United States, the Haitian authorities might face technical issues that may arise later on resulting from this development. Legally, when there are quite a number of accused involved in the case and they were charged with the same offense, if the court clears one, they have to clear the rest.
The Baptist and all other Christian community pray that Justice for Laura, Charisa and the rest of the group will be granted by the Haitian court. As it was clear by now that the group, neither Laura Silsby herself, have no intention to "kidnap" the kids, but, to give them better life and save them from the chaotic aftermath of killer earthquake that took 217,000 lives, devastated $14 Billion of properties and infrastructure, leaving 1.4 million Haitian families homeless.
