In Hawaii: Democrats Remain Unbeatable in Oahu

SB
Honolulu, Hawaii- The gap between Republicans and Democrats remains at the latter's advantage, as new Hawaii Poll found former Rep. Neil Abercrombie (D) holding the edge over GOP's gubernatorial candidate Duke Iona (R).

According to the Associated Press, Abercrombie and Brian Schatz (running for the vice governor' seat) lead various public opinion polls held all over the state since early this year. The numbers for the two candidates, neither their ratings have scarcely changed. All polls conducted unanimously resulted to an eight-point lead for the democrats.

AP further reported that many voters are convinced that with Abercrombie's extensive experience as a lawmaker, the Aloha State has a better future; that with his in-depth knowledge and expertise, major issues like public education and budget deficits will be addressed effectively, way better than Iona could.

Some sources say that huge disappointment of the Hawaii voters on Lingle-Iona term had caused the latter a real damaging disadvantage.

But, although most polls were showing that Abercrombie's leading, according to the GOP camp, that lead is actually just in Oahu. For the other islands, the gap is really too narrow and that is something Dems shouldn't be complacent of. Iona who has the Hawaiian ancestry will surely be backed up by the native Hawaiians, also the independents and the young generation, while Abercrombie got the Filipinos, Japanese-Americans and union workers.

On the congressional level, Colleen Hanabusa (D) and Charles Djou (R) remain to be in a tight battle to win the U.S. House seat for the 1st Congressional District of Hawaii.

Previously, GOPs were enjoying the lead over two Democrat candidates, Hanabusa and Ed Chase. But, the latter conceded and paved way to ensure the victory of their party. In addition to that, the result of various debates plus the personal endorsement of U.S. President Barack Obama gave Hanabusa (and Abercrombie) a very good chance to defeat Djou, and for the Dems to regain the U.S. House position that Neil used to hold for 11 consecutive terms.
