In the Heat of Summer Days

In the Heat of Summer Days

In the heat of summer
days of tacky asphalt,
haze of dusty cities
hangs brownish in the air,
as we long for a breeze.

In the heat of summer,
children stay in the streets,
playing football with screams
of "Car!", while waiting for
release of hydrant streams.

In the heat of summer,
there's biking in the parks
where lovers sit and sigh,
on Sunday afternoons,
as families ride by.

In the heat of summer,
color meets explosions;
Bright flowers on the scene.
City life seems alive
when grey meets summer green.

(This poem is written in a poetry form, created by Jim T Henriksen, called a Monchielle. This piece was republished from my original written for WDC on June11, 2006.)
