In Love with the Thought of a New Business?

Stop Before You Take the Next Step

TA James
The moment that most people decide they want to start a business, some forget that there is more to do then just renting or purchasing office or general space. This is where many beginner businesses go wrong, because the new entrepreneur has fallen in love with the idea of earning no less than six figures the first year this starts them at a terrible disadvantage and possible heartache, debt, and frustration. Below is a list that every prospective business owner should take into mind before starting the next best thing.

1. Demographics - This is necessary for the location of your new business. No one should ever attempt to open up a strip club in Amish Country, so don't attempt to place a new business in an area where there will be no need for your services. Also keep in mind that McDonald's would open another McDonald's next door to an existing property. There is a definite need for you to find your niche with the market your entering into.

2. Niche - This would be the area of expertise you're going into. An area so unique or completely lacking within an area that you are completely sure there will be a definite need or a service that only you can provide.

3. Target Market - This would include the individuals that will purchase your services or product. It is a rare occurrence that a person would open a bait and tackle store in the middle of the desert, because there is no need. Your target market should include individuals who could benefit from your services and products, a grocery store in an area that is lacking in such establishments, where people reside. Everyone need the products within a grocery store unless your raising your own needs for consumption. So always keep in mind and study by means of surveys, focus groups, networking, etc. who will have a need for your services and or products.

4. Finances - Finances can come in many forms, but should always come before the placement of the business. If you do not have enough money in your savings account designated for such activities and I mean more than twenty thousands dollars, unless your particular business requires no employees or inventory, or a change of location from your home. Either way funds are necessary even if you are providing a service for example grant writer. In being a grant writer you will need ink for your printer, software, office supplies, paper, etc. then you will definitely need funds. Funds can come from loans, grants, family, friends, investors, etc. Your finances should be long term based, it is fine to do short term, however if you are gaining assistance from an outside source whether it be one of the choices listed then it is wise to adhere to their stipulations and I know that banks and the SBA require a long term plan for your finances.

5. Business Plan - This is the most important part of any business, because it incorporates the above. I don't care if you are in the process of writing a book you will need to still do a business plan, although for books it's normally a book proposal and has various requirements. A business plan will incorporate everything in reference to the business you will start. Next if you are doing a grant or loan it would be wise to have your plan together. A business plan also helps when you are in need in figuring out, if the type of business you have in mind, is a successful idea it will give you the cold hard facts of everything in regards to your business, normally in a long term outline based on 5 to 10 years.

6.

Faith - This is necessary for anything that you do but most importantly if you are in an environment full of nay sayers. This would be the perfect time not to get ideas or confirmation from negative people. Lord knows it will be hard enough figuring out the terms of your new business, why add more worry to it. You knew that it was going to be a good idea when it started so keep that in mind when you begin your planning and research. Sometimes you may have to tweak the general concept or direction for your business, but overall you are headed in the right direction, and keep your path free from unnecessary obstacles.

The above listed are only a few necessary areas to keep in mind when starting a business out of hundreds of points. The outlined points will generally point you in the right direction you are attempting to go in. Over all I wish you luck in your future endeavors into the business world, as well as many blessings.
