Marcelas Owens is an 11-year-old Seattle boy whose single mother died in 2007 from pulmonary hypertension. Since the health care debate has ratcheted up over the past year, Washington Senator Patty Murray has been at the forefront of pushing little Marcelas to the front lines of the health care battle. Misusing kids has been such a relentless fall-back weapon for the cowardly Democrats that Marcelas and his story ended up as the fodder for a politicized press conference. In essence, the Democrats are cynically and calculatingly holding Marcelas up for everyone to see (like he's nothing more than a lifeless prop), as if to say, "Here America! Look what your opposition to Obamacare has done! It's killed this little boy's mother...you heartless b_______!"
Without a doubt, Democrats are banking on the chance that when you see little Marcelas' pre-pubescent face (you know, all innocent and whatnot), you get all emotional, guilt-ridden and abandon your legitimate arguments against Obamacare. Do not fall for this cynical-and-predictable trick. After seeing Marcelas and hearing his sob-story-because, let's face it, the Democrats are playing up his personal story and making it into a sob-story-you may say to yourself, "Awwww. I just want to take little Marcelas home with me (since he has no mother now and all) and put him up at my home, give him lots of junk food to eat to his heart's content, let him play as much Xbox 360 as he wants, and protect him from the 'evils' of the free-market!!" That's certainly what Democrats want you to do as they play on your heartstrings to persuade you to change your mind on Obamacare...but before you do, consider this.
According to Michelle Malkin, even if Marcelas' mother had not been dropped with regards to her insurance, she may've still died because she was apparently already in bad shape when she lost her job and then her insurance. Further, assuming for a second that the loss of insurance was all to blame for her death, Washington state apparently has a number of government assistance programs to laid-off workers, and it would've only taken Marcelas' mother to enroll to obtain the needed coverage. That begs the question, Why did she not enroll? Was she perhaps expecting someone to enroll...her...on her behalf? The point here, contrary to the Democrats' hyper-emotional attempt to blur the facts, is the problem was not with the privatized system in the US, but with a failure to apply for government assistance. The way the Democrats are exploiting Marcelas makes the US look like some third-world hellhole where people just die without insurance!
The Democrats as a party have a rotten tradition of exploiting children when they're either on their last legs (as they are with Obamacare), or are facing an emotional component as part of their policy initiatives (such as people dying after losing coverage). That explains why they have no shame in exploiting Marcelas this time around. Does anyone remember 2007, when the Democrats exploited 12-year-old (God, what is it with Democrats and their sick targeting of pre-teens? Can't they aim higher and target, say, some 16-year-olds? Geeze!) Graeme Frost to push for President Bush's support of CHIP (Children's Health Insurance Program)?
To Democrats, deviously exploiting pre-teen children to satisfy their demands for more government programs and wealth redistribution (as your taxes pay for all these subsidy programs) is just par for the course! Thus, Democrats are great at emotional terrorism, as in insinuating that you're somehow bad for opposing their legislation because-uh-oh!-some child is getting hurt! However, I prefer calling the Democrats' tactic here what it truly is: child abuse.

Well, that's definately not cool :(
People have to know that there are programs available in order to apply for them.
We've seen this before. Isn't the parading of the unfortunate, and the anecdotal "horror stories" of health reform a usual tactic of these folks?
This is sad indeed.
Great coverage health care is not a right and the dems who exploited this young one should be punished.
The need for universal health care should be a right, and i think the refusal of the Republican party to support president Obama and the democrats to provide a meaningful health care program for americans is is a disgrace and shameful.
There is NO insurance company that provides services. Insurance only PAYS for part of the services provided by medical personnel. We are not talking about health CARE reform, we are talking about health INSURANCE reform. And all insurance is like a casino...it is based on statistical risks, and the house always wins. That's the reason the current insurance companies are STILL making billions of dollars of record profits every year, and they are paying shareholders record dividends.
I agree with Sharetha. The seniors love Medicare and it's a gov't program. The rest of us should have something like that too.
People need to look at the big picture. More people would benefit from Obama's healthcare reform than would hurt from it. If only we could get out of our self-centered ways and think about the next man.
