In Memory of DJ Sam Storicks: A West Coast Music Icon Gone at Only 30
Many Communities Mourn the Sudden Loss of a Legendary DJ and Online Humorist
On the night of July 23, Storicks passed away in the hospital with family, partner and friends by his side and the support and sounds of his favorite music and musicians. The overwhelming support from the communities he touched around the world has outlined a legacy all those who were around him. He leaves behind his family, and his partner of over two years, Greg.
In addition to his fame as a DJ in Seattle, Portland, San Francisco and many other cities, most frequently the Bearracuda events, Storicks worked as an in-flight team leader for Virgin America.
Storicks' status as a well-known and popular DJ, his incomparable with and his love for Jimmy Eat World made Storicks a bit of a hero to me, and I had hoped to run into him one day at a Jimmy Eat World concert, just to say hello. I met him online several years ago and was immediately drawn to his awesome sense of humor, wit and sparkling personality. We often went separately to the same awesome Jimmy Eat World shows, so I had always planned on meeting him...next time. When I hadn't heard from him in a while, I visited his Facebook page to say hello and ask about his plans to see Jimmy Eat World. It was then that I found that he had passed on.
It hurts my heart to know that I will never read another of his hilariously bold, snarky and outrageous comments, meet him at a Jimmy Eat World Show, or look for him in earnest when traveling at the airport. His unexpected illness garnered an amazing outpouring of support from the people and communities that knew and loved him. Storicks was a great talent and an amazing personality, and he will be missed by a great many who were touched by his brilliant wonderfulness.
Bye Sam. Wish I could have met you in person; you brought me a lot of joy just by being online and loving music.
