Lysacek Wins Gold!

The eighteen years of Russian domination has come to an end, as Evan Lysacek of the United States won the Gold Medal in Men's Figure Skating; defeating three-time world champ Yevgeny Plushenko of Russia.

Many have already forecasted that it will be a tight fight not just between the two Olympians, but, also with Daisuke Takashi of Japan who won Bronze. Lysacek, Plushenko and Takahashi were only few points; decimal points away from each other Tuesday night after the short program.

But, Plushenko showed confidence that he can defend his throne, and said he came back to Olympics for a reason.

The Russian Champ dominated on the short program, but, not far enough for Lysacek to overcome after a "flawless" performance, where he scored 1.31 ahead of Plushenko at the free skate final.

The judges didn't see enough jump on Plushenko's final performance, and his balance was a little off too; as he was seen struggling on his landing couple of times.

Lysacek, 24, is the first American who won the title after Brian Boitano, on 1988 at Calgary; breaking the 18 years of Russians' winning streak in Men's Figure Skating.

Meanwhile, the crowd in Vancouver who watched both the short program and the free skate final have seen a promising future for the Japanese men's figure skater. It was the first time for the "Japs" to have a representative in the podium.

Although, Takahashi fell on his opening quadruple jump Thursday night, over-all the judges and the crowd were delighted with his performance.
