In a Shocking Move, Sarah Palin, Alaskan Governor Chosen as McCain's VP Nominee

Zach
It was a day that came with a shock when presidential candidate John McCain chose his running mate Sarah Palin, the governor of Alaska. Sarah Palin might be well known to Alaskans but not so much to the rest of the free world. At 42 years old, now 44, Sarah Palin made some history in Alaska when she became the first female governor as well as the youngest female governor of the state.

The choice came in on Friday, August 29, which happens to be John McCain's birthday, as he introduced her as a woman who knows what it is like to worry about such things as mortgage payments, health care, and the price of gasoline and food but is she qualified for becoming vice president? Obama does not seem to think so. He criticized her by saying that her views or experience on foreign policy were not up to par. McCain has been criticized for the move on Friday for his choice of a nominee who is a woman. Some say that he is just pandering to women voters because of the friction from Hilary Clinton. Others say Palin was picked because she has a strong voice and is not afraid to let her views be known. The truth lies with McCain on why she was chosen.

With her avid support and praise of both Hillary Rodham Clinton and Geraldine F. Ferraro, who was the running mate democrat Walter F. Mondale in 1984, it is not a big leap on to what kind of voters she was brought in to target.

"Hillary left 18 million cracks in the highest, hardest glass ceiling in America, but it turns out the women of America aren't finished yet, and we can shatter that glass ceiling once and for all" was just one of her compliments of Hilary.

Will McCain succeed in getting more popularity from female voters? Only time can tell us if he will be able to. The more interesting question is, though, was this all construed solely to get more votes from the female demographic? Whether or not it was only John McCain and his campaign staff can tell us but if you look at the success of the Democratic National Convention you might be able to see why this could have been a timely counter move for the republicans.
