In My World There is No Fast Food

A Poetic Screed on Obesity

Stephen C. Rose
In my world there is no fast food
The ghouls of advertising mutely
Cease
Their murderous assault
Upon our bodies

The metrosprawl suburban tracts
Are all
Ploughed under
To make room for
Planting
What God creates for free

We leave
Agribusiness
In the dust

Their chemical bombs
No longer detonated in our bodies
To make us
Diabetic
And unable to set foot
Before foot
A walker nation

No longer
Women who cannot give birth
Without new delving tools
To penetrate the viscous layers
The enemy places there

The enemy
Was us
Is us
Yes
His name is us

No longer baconater triples
Supersonic burgers
Bk quad stackers
Bread bowl pastas
No more archer
No more davis
No more midland
No more
Double double toil and
Stomachs all
Abubble

No more infernal deep fries
Monster meals
Sodium 1700

No more anything with
Calories 900

No more
Eat up dearie
Waddle to the car

My world is built upon the corpse
Of the devil's obese bargain

Now attend

We are our bodies
The devil doesn't do it
We do
The devil the part of us that wants to see us pained
The devil is our ingenious generation
Of fiscal machines that
Create medications to delay death
As we self-slaughter at the trough

We make ourselves infirm
On jumbo whoppers
Stuffed burritos

We shase them with milkshakes
Made with chemicals
Whose names escape us

Our stomachs distend amiably
We make our selves
By everything we do

In my world the walk returns
The city returns
The all-reality neighborhood returns
Jane Jacobs is revered
And Johnny Appleseed is known

All today's world is no longer a stage
It's obese bodies
Calvacade in iron suits
Called SUVs
Ingesting rights of ways
on the way to
Hells of their own making

Monster meals
Viscous burps
Plastic covered couches
Collapse occurs apace

Oh sad
O kyrie
O nihilist eleison
American religion
Transmogrified
By monster meals
One thousand calories apiece
And snacks allowed

We are in the midst
Of woes my friend

Our devils cannot be defeated on the plane of states
But only on the plane of spirit

Stand up
Stand up
4 Jesus
Take control
Be
Soldiers of the
Cross
Take up control

Climb Jacob's Ladder daily
Do something good for you
Daily
You are your mind
You are your soul
You are your body

All are one
Begin again
